In 1994, adidas launched a pair of football boots that would change the history of our sport. They were called Predator, and with this launch, the German brand reinvented the concept of football boots.
Eighteen years later, we are here to present the 19th generation of adidas' flagship product, the adidas Predator Edge football boots. Of course, these football boots have little in common with their predecessors. They will be criticised and pointed at for days, but they will eventually win a place in the hearts of millions of footballers around the world. That's how it's always been with adidas Predator football boots: first we criticise them, then we use them, and from that moment on we can't take them off.
As you can see in the photos, adidas has reinterpreted the Predator concept with new materials and shapes. We will start by analysing the most striking feature, the ZONE SKIN, or as many of you will call it, the Predator Element. The three-stripe brand always provides us with a striking zone on adidas Predator football boots, and Edge is no different. The material is still a rubber similar to that used in the ‘Sparks’ of the previous Predator Freak boots, but the design of these new ‘Ribs’ is completely different, allowing them to cover a much larger surface area, making it almost impossible for the ball not to touch this material every time we have it in our possession.
Without a doubt, the adidas Predator Edge football boots are designed to improve the feel of the ball, and this new design is a great example of that. But that's not all, as comfort is another fundamental quality of Predator, and adidas's best ally in this regard is Primeknit. This elastic material continues to play a leading role, appearing on the instep and across the entire rear portion of the boot. Its placement has a clear objective: to improve comfort and provide support, making it a key asset in the overall design of these football boots.
As expected, the brand's three signature stripes also feature on these adidas football boots, extending to the outer heel area and sporting a new geometric design that mimics the faceting of a diamond. The logo is located on the instep, perfectly sized to make a statement without stealing the show.
The collar area is another new feature of the adidas Predator Edge football boots. Different shapes and cuts attempt to improve certain aspects without compromising others that did not need improvement. The main objectives were to make it easier to put your foot into these football boots without compromising on support, stability and comfort. To achieve this, adidas has redesigned the instep area with an opening that makes it easier to put your foot in, without compromising on the other aspects we get once our foot is inside the boot.
The latest and most important innovation in these new adidas Predator Edge football boots is the sole. A new plate for Predator Edge, called FACETFRAME, divided into two pieces, with four triangular studs at the rear and another six at the front, combined with a diamond-shaped stud in the centre. This new sole aims to facilitate all aspects of the game, helping us to traction in turns, brake, start and rotate, depending on what the play requires. Moving on to its design, adidas continues to turn its soles into works of art thanks to the chrome finish they receive in all their + versions. Functionality, but with a spectacular design that identifies the brand.
Now that we have listed all the changes made to the adidas striking silo in this new generation, let's move on to the colours, which do not affect the functionality of the boots but are just as important to many footballers. Electric blue is the colour chosen for the adidas Predator Edge football boots for their launch. A bright, cheerful and eye-catching colour that is accompanied by an orange with the same characteristics as the main colour, covering the brand logo, the three stripes and the ZONE SKIN.
This is the new generation of adidas Predator, born under the name EDGE. We will see how it is received by fans of a silo that never fails to impress with each update. We look forward to your comments on our social media profiles, as well as on our YouTube channel. What's more, if you want to get your hands on them, they are now available both in stores and on the Fútbol Emotion website.
