This is the name of the latest special, limited-edition release that adidas has put together for the 2026 World Cup – Messi’s sixth and 20 years on from his first – and what better occasion to unveil a boot inspired by those legendary adidas F50 Tune It boots that a young Messi first wore back in 2006.
And this inspiration is evident throughout the boot: the upper features the hugely popular HybridTouch+, the material that has been a staple of the Argentine’s boots for many years, with a Halocage lining, just like in the standard version of the new adidas F50.
The design features subtle gold detailing, in addition to the colours of the Argentina jersey, which pays homage to the Albicelestes’ previous World Cup title. There is also Messi’s logo on the heel and the laces are covered, just like on the legendary F50s.
The ‘Ultimo Tango’ slogan appears on the sole, which is carried over from the current F50 model, but is now printed directly onto it; there are also messages on the string bed and a slightly different design on the upper itself.
These are Lionel Messi’s new boots, which he debuted with a hat-trick in a match that will go down in football history, where he has once again shown that the legacy of his boots is, quite simply, eternal. Let’s enjoy 'el último tango'.
