New adidas Predator Freak+

The German brand’s iconic boots are back with a bang. This isn’t just another launch, as we know full well what the Predator range means to both fans and professionals alike. Just as with the launch of the previous generation of its flagship model, adidas has once again left the world speechless. Welcome to Predator 2021, welcome to Predator Freak+.

The 2021 adidas Predator football boots are ready to take the market by storm and claim the top spot in the football boot market. We’re not going to tell you anything you don’t already know about this range, which this year celebrates its 27th anniversary. Ever since 1994, when Craig Johnston decided to create and present the German brand with one of those crazy ideas that make history, the models in the Predator’s history have appeared, disappeared, been loved and disappointed, but what is undeniable is that the philosophy has remained intact over the years. As we mentioned regarding the current generation—the most aggressive Predators in history—on this occasion, the beast has mutated. Following its return in November 2017 with its laceless version, the Predator has simply gone back to being the best-selling model we all knew.

In this new generation, the base and design are very similar to those of the previous generation. But don’t let the first visual impression or my words fool you: although it may seem that ‘little’ has changed in the adidas Predator for 2021, the small details make a huge difference compared to what we had before.

If we take a closer look at the new upper of the adidas boot, the first thing to note is that it is still made from Primeknit, a material that has already been used in previous versions and has achieved a level of comfort that has won over even the most demanding players. But the reality is that the first thing that catches the eye is the change in shape and distribution of the famous rubber studs covering the boot. We’ve gone from 406 studs to exactly 225, with a noticeable change in thickness.

Furthermore, we can see that it no longer depends so much on the striking area, as, as we can see in the images, practically the entire front section—which is exposed to all kinds of impacts—is covered with these new spikes. It is true that their thickness is proportional to the areas with which we strike the ball most frequently. This new technology has been dubbed ‘Mutated Demonskin’, an evolution that will continue to demonstrate the effectiveness of these striking elements, which increase the ball’s spin when struck.

Another key and highly distinctive feature of the new Predator is its new ‘collar’. The new Mutated Silhouette boasts a revamped design. According to adidas’ engineers, it delivers on the Lock-Down philosophy even more effectively than before. These boots mould perfectly to your foot, fitting like a glove and feeling like a second skin – something we’re all increasingly looking for. This time, we see an incredibly high collar that completely covers the ankle, yet remains flexible thanks to its elasticity. Finally, as is customary with the three-stripe brand, the entire upper has been covered with a synthetic layer that protects the Primeknit yarn, waterproofs the upper and extends the lifespan of the boots.

One element that hasn’t undergone any significant changes is the outsole. As we recall, the previous generation—after more than 15 years—introduced a modular, two-piece outsole once again, separating the forefoot from the heel and thereby lightening the new CONTROLFRAME plate. The studs, which are rounder than in previous generations, are similar to those found on the adidas Nemeziz football boot range, following the trend towards shorter, rounder studs that are better suited to modern football pitches.

These are the new 2021 adidas Predator Freak+ football boots, part of the new adidas Superlative Pack, and they are now available on the Fútbol Emotion website
