Puma’s new football boots are clearly the sort of footwear a modern player would wear, but bear in mind that if there’s one thing the German brand excels at, it’s offering a wide range of options to all footballers – take, for example, the recently unveiled Puma ULTRA. Perhaps the ‘speed’ category was difficult to pigeonhole into two truly formidable categories. The now-vintage Puma ONE football boot is fading into obscurity, though not without first emphasising its quality, comfort and innovation, whilst always retaining that distinctive ‘classic’ feel provided by the leather.
German speed – Puma ULTRA
This marked the brand’s return to speed; for a brand like Puma, which produced shoes for the world’s fastest man, speed has always been in its DNA, and since the evoSPEED range was discontinued in 2017, the brand has not had a dedicated, distinct speed boot. That is why we can see the real reason behind this launch and just how important it is for the German brand. And for that reason, they haven’t taken it lightly, as it returns after years of testing and feedback from some of the world’s best attacking players, including Sergio Agüero, Nikita Parris and, as the star signing, Antoine Griezmann, to this new range.
Puma Ultra 1.2 Speed Of Light
Puma has combined a thoroughly dynamic silhouette with an extremely lightweight upper, known as MATRYXEVO. It is a fully engineered, technologically advanced boot featuring a cutting-edge outsole designed for instinctive running. The MATRYXEVO upper allows Puma to use a single layer of material, bringing this fabric much closer to the foot whilst providing exceptional support and remarkable lightness. This is the first time this material has been used in a football boot. Furthermore, an additional component has been applied across the upper: a GripControl Pro skin in key areas of the shell to provide complete control and precise grip on the ball when moving at extreme speeds.

We wanted to integrate all the functionality into an upper material to make it as comfortable as possible for the feet. Attached to the upper is a lightweight Pebax SpeedUnit outsole, featuring a bifurcated outsole design inspired by Puma’s stud DNA for dynamic acceleration. The outsole plate combines subtle triad-shaped studs in the forefoot with V-shaped blades for added aerodynamics, engineered for explosive speed.
