The worst football boots of 2019

Taking inspiration from one of our followers, today we’re showing once again that we’re keeping an eye on everything you post on any of our social media channels. Today we’re going to present the three pairs of football boots that have disappointed us the most in 2019.

The football boots you’re about to see in this article occupy the bottom spots in our TOP list because, of everything that came onto the market in 2019, these are the three that impressed us the least. This doesn’t mean, by any means, that they’re the worst football boots in the world. Quite the opposite: they’re high-quality models and very well made. However, taking into account everything that was launched during that year, these are the three boots that impressed us the least and which, therefore, occupy the bottom positions in our ranking.

adidas Copa 20

Without a doubt, these are some of our favourite football boots. However, this new version, the COPA 20, remains very similar to the COPA 19, and it is precisely for this reason that the new COPA boots go straight onto our list. Why? Because, for a new generation created and designed from scratch, adidas has merely modified the upper design, incorporating a 3D finish to increase and improve the boot’s grip. We believe adidas could have done much more with these boots, which is why the adidas COPA 20 features on this list of the least impressive football boots of 2019.

New Balance Tekela 2 Pro

New Balance is the brand with the smallest range of football boots. However, its boots are still products of exceptional quality, and we believe they deserve greater support on the pitch from professional players, as well as wider acceptance from you. Within its range of football boots, we can state quite clearly that the NB Furon outperforms the Tekela by a mile. With this in mind, we’re going to explain the main reasons why we consider these boots to be a ‘fail’, even though they have a great deal of potential and we believe the brand should make much better use of it. The Tekela boots are not easy to adapt to every type of foot, as the synthetic material of the upper, whilst soft on the outside, is somewhat rough and stiff on the inside. Furthermore, the heel counter is too hard and, combined with a sole featuring conical studs, this always causes us greater discomfort compared to other football boots.

Puma Future 4.1

The Puma Future 4.1 tops our list, and we’d go so far as to say it does so by a landslide. In a year of transition, with many ambitious projects on the table, the German brand attempted to launch a host of products, combining a wealth of information with a wide range of ideas from its already extensive marketing department. One of the main flaws of these boots was, in fact, their rushed launch in early summer 2019. However, Puma is now a completely different brand and, having realised this minor ‘mistake’, reacted swiftly and decisively in late November with the launch of the Puma Future 5.1 Flash. Another aspect worth noting about these boots is their 3D finish, which is far too thick and pronounced. This material, which is much rougher and thicker, ended up distorting the toe box of the boot and, at times, caused some discomfort inside. Add to this the stiffness of the synthetic upper material and an extremely rigid heel counter, and the result is an unattractive football boot. However, it’s not all bad news. The outsole has remained virtually unchanged in this new generation and continues to be a testament to the excellent work Puma has done in recent years. This boot simply needs a little more attention to detail to achieve a final result that lives up to expectations.
