A few days ago, news broke that Cristiano Ronaldo was wearing a different-looking pair of Mercurial Superfly boots during his training sessions with Real Madrid – a style that reminded us very much of the iconic Mercurial Safari II and III.
Although we cannot confirm the release date for this special edition, what we can reveal is the name of the boot and the inspiration behind this unique colourway; the renowned designer Kim Jones, who was tasked with bringing this edition to life, grew up in Africa and says he has always admired the strength of animals. This Mercurial Superfly 360 X Kim Jones exudes the African savannah from every angle, and, taking the big cat as his starting point, Jones weaves in his personal history – including his childhood travels and the famous punk attitude fostered in London – to create an animal-inspired version of the Mercurial.
The new Nike Mercurial Superfly 360 X Kim Jones football boots feature a cheetah print on the upper and boast the signature Swoosh in white, rather than the original black version with which they were first unveiled. The outsole, which remains functionally unchanged, is in the now-familiar chrome colour, with the designer’s name repeated several times on the two parts of the modular outsole, as is also the case with the iconic Mercurial logo on the heel.
We’ll be providing more information about this launch very soon.
