The second generation of the Nike Hypervenom Phantom football boots was launched at the end on May 2015. After some unexpected reactions by both professional and amateur players, Nike updates the second generation of its attacking boot with the first model´s framework which was very successful among players.
It is wise to learn from your mistakes, that is what they must have thought at the Nike Headquarters. The Nike Hypervenom Phantom were not becoming popular among professional players and as a result many of them such as Isco Alarcon or Mandzukic, were switching to the Mercurial boots or asking for the framework of the first model to be adapted to the second one.
It became such a big problem that even the Brazilian star and image of the model, Neymar Jr, started to play with Mercurial Vapor. However a little later nike created a hybrid model for him (a mercurial boot camouflaged as a Hypervenom) so the player remained as the image of Nike´s attacking boot.
Ross Barkley also showed his hybrid Hypervenom model on social media which made it very obvious that the Hypervenom Phantom II did not fulfil the players´ needs and holding on one more year with a model that was not going to sell as expected would be a mistake.
The only problem was the framework that is why the solution was very simple, instead of losing sales we bring back the original framework and we get the best out of both generations on the same boot. The NikeSkin framework of the original model is combined with the briocables and the DynamicFit collar offering what many people were asking for.
It must not be easy to be such a big brand like Nike is and having to rectify about something, which means you launched a product that did not succeed. However, being completely honest I think it is wise to bring back the original framework that was already approved by so many players and I would dare to say that this will have a very positive effect on this model´s sales.
