For months now, we haven’t been able to leave the house after 10 pm; the curfew imposed on us to curb this pandemic has put a stop to many of our evenings, and now we’re stuck at home with little to do. Fortunately, the heroes of Tuesday and Wednesday nights are back to brighten up our days, and we’ll be able to enjoy top-class matches of the highest standard. What’s more, adidas has given us a wonderful gift by previewing tomorrow’s match with the unveiling of the competition’s new ball – a ball with a story to tell, which is why we’ll be taking a closer look at it together today.

The German brand has created a historic ball, incorporating the last twenty years of this competition. That’s right, adidas has incorporated the designs of the last twenty match balls from this competition, creating a true masterpiece. We can see how each panel features a different design that specifically recalls the last 20 finals. Naturally, we find the iconic stars that alternate with the panels to form the now-classic starball.
The ball will be used from the round of 16 onwards and will be with us from tomorrow until the 29th of May, the day of the final to be held in Istanbul at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium. This time, the spherical object is predominantly grey, a colour that features on the panels bearing the designs of the last twenty balls. Furthermore, within the panels we see a small orange stripe featuring an inscription detailing which final it belongs to, so that we can recognise the design of the balls from all the finals. The now-classic stars, meanwhile, are white with black outlines. Some of them feature designs inside, such as the ‘Big Ears’ trophy, the Champions League logo, the adidas logo or the two teams competing against each other, all coloured in orange. Clearly, we have a winter-themed colour scheme in which orange takes centre stage, accompanied by grey and a very light blue.
