The best football teams
GOAL
In 2005, Kuno Becker starred in the first instalment of this trilogy, considered by many to be the best in the series. The three films tell the story of Santiago Muñez, a young Mexican man living as an illegal immigrant in the United States who possesses an exceptional talent for football. His skill eventually takes him to Europe, where he signs for Newcastle United to pursue his dream of becoming a professional footballer. Without a doubt, the first film was the most acclaimed by both critics and audiences.
VICTORY
Inspired by Andy Dougan’s book, this film brings together a cast of internationally renowned actors alongside football legends such as Pelé and Bobby Moore. The story recounts how a group of prisoners use a football match against a Nazi army side as a cover to organise a daring escape from their prison camp.
DAMNED UNITED
This film tells the story of the legendary English manager Brian Clough, from his successful spell in charge of Derby County to his arrival at Nottingham Forest, a club he led from the English Second Division to winning two consecutive European Cups. However, the film focuses in particular on the brief and turbulent period during which he was manager of Leeds United.
A SHOT AT GLORY
Starring Robert Duvall, Michael Keaton and former footballer Ally McCoist, this film tells the story of the fictional Kilnockie FC, a modest Scottish club playing in the Scottish Football League Second Division, which manages to qualify for the Scottish Cup final, where it faces the all-powerful Glasgow Rangers.
UNITED
The legendary Manchester United and their unforgettable ‘Busby Babes’ take centre stage in this film. The youngest team in history to win the English league suffered the tragic Munich air disaster whilst returning from a European Cup match. The film shows how the club and the whole city of Manchester came together to overcome the tragedy and rebuild one of the most iconic teams in world football.
PELÉ: BIRTH OF A LEGEND
This Brazilian-American co-production traces the early years of Edson Arantes do Nascimento, known as Pelé, from his childhood and his early days at Santos FC to his victory at the 1958 World Cup in Sweden, where, at just 17 years of age, he became one of the great revelations of world football.
