Leo Messi's adidas Nemeziz 19.1 Grafiti boots

Leo Messi’s new boots are straight out of a superhero comic. Everything the Argentine star has achieved, is achieving, and has yet to achieve simply confirms that he is a living legend of our sport. Words fail us when it comes to describing this player, but our deepest feelings do not. Welcome to the new adidas Nemeziz 19.1 Messi.

Lionel Messi is, of course, inextricably linked to the city of Barcelona and FC Barcelona. Ever since he arrived at El Prat as a 13-year-old to make his lifelong dream a reality: to become a professional footballer. That goal proved to be too modest, because 17 years on, the Argentine striker is considered by many to be the greatest footballer of all time. His attachment to the city that welcomed him at such a young age is unmistakable and, although there is no summer that goes by without speculation about his future, the truth is that Messi has always said that his dream is to end his career at Barça.

Now, at the age of 33, the number 10 for both Barcelona and the Argentine national team is raring to go as he takes on the tough challenge of winning his fifth Champions League title as a Barça player, and he’s already got his adidas Nemeziz 19.1 boots ready to help him score plenty of goals very soon. The adidas brand has designed a groundbreaking model for him, inspired by urban ‘graffiti’ art, bursting with colour and featuring the name ‘Barcelona’ across the instep of the boots.

With the Argentina flag

The boots worn by the genius from Rosario seem to be a concentrated tribute to his entire life: they also feature the Argentine flag. The legendary number 10 and his name in green lettering complete the look of what is the star player’s main tool of the trade, apart from the ball.

We should remember that these adidas football boots were originally scheduled for release in June 2020, in time for the 2020 Copa América; however, the launch has been postponed as the tournament has been moved to next year. Messi will wear the boots in the second leg of the 2019-20 UEFA Champions League tie against Napoli and in a potential final.

As we’ve already mentioned, they feature several designs celebrating life; Messi. What makes these boots unique is that the designs are not repeated and are distinct on the right boot (Rosario) and the left boot (Barcelona). This isn’t the first time that adidas has launched Leo Messi boots inspired by his hometown, Rosario. The German brand previously launched a boot inspired by Rosario in 2015.

Technical features: adidas Nemeziz 19.1

The shell continues to utilise AgilityBandage technology, but this time the bandage is woven into the forefoot, allowing it to rise evenly up both sides of the boot. A new synthetic finish protects this material and provides extra grip, which was one of the weak points of the previous generation. Inside the boot lies an elastic membrane that hugs the instep, very similar to that of the ACE 16+, securing it to the base so that stability is not compromised by the absence of laces.

And we’ll finish by talking about the sole. The first thing we notice is the return of the modular sole, which we haven’t seen in adidas football boots for almost 10 years. The new plate structure reduces its weight and increases its responsiveness. On top of this, there are 11 conical studs in a traditional positioning that will provide traction during the most aggressive moments of play. Let’s not forget that these are Leo Messi’s new football boots.
