The new Nike Phantom Vision 2 football boots are something that, quite simply, we’ve known about for a while. Leaked images have been appearing in a steady stream across social media accounts dedicated to this sort of thing, constantly leaving Nike football boot enthusiasts wanting more.

Before we get down to business, and if you’re regular visitors to Fútbol Emotion’s ‘El Vestuario’, we saw how Nike officially unveiled this new release through its futsal range with the new Nike Phantom Vision 2 futsal shoe. This is a statement of intent from the Americans, as what we can read between the lines is that Nike is committed to futsal shoes, as was clearly evident with last year’s return of the Nike Lunar Gato II futsal shoe – one of the best ever made.
The ‘Elite’ range of Nike football boots is, as the name suggests, the brand’s top-of-the-range collection. The Phantom VSN 2 range features an updated fit, combined with superb texture and an easy slip-on design, to meet the performance needs of attacking players.
Let’s start with the shell – and, to be honest, from a technological point of view, little has changed compared to its predecessor, but BEWARE: the way they’re used and arranged in this new boot is a different story altogether. For a superb fit, the upper part of the boot is constructed with a symmetrical Flyknit outer layer, accompanied by the now-familiar lace-concealment system – Ghost Lace – which allows for a uniform striking surface and customisable lace adjustment with a single pull. The QUADFIT technology makes a return, of course (the triangle on the inside), as it has become the hallmark of this range. It stands out and looks absolutely ready for shots, with a particular emphasis on its durability. This time, this technology is positioned further forward on the boot in this second-generation model.
Moving on to the chassis and support. Everything’s just right – we can see that the heel counter is very similar to the one in the first generation, perfect for withstanding all those sudden movements that are so common in our sport. Rounding off the fit, and as a new feature, we see a new Dynamic Fit Collar, designed to provide a more dynamic and elegant silhouette. The ‘sock’ has been lowered below the medial malleolus to maximise ankle mobility and support, much like the design found in the Nike Mercurial Superfly football boots. In addition, tabs have been added to make it easier to put the boots on and take them off, featuring a small numerical graphic indicating the GPS coordinates of Nike Football’s design studio in the United States.
The new plate stands out for being both ultra-lightweight and responsive, thereby reducing weight and maximising the power generated by our legs. The stud layout combines traditional and modern features: there are 14 studs distributed across the areas of lowest pressure, with three of them positioned around the big toe in a circle to aid turning, and four laminated studs on the heel for greater stability.
The question we’re now asking ourselves is: Is this really a new generation? Or is it more of a facelift? Let’s not kid ourselves, the answer is obvious, but it’s true that Nike has placed a great deal of emphasis on refining the aspects that could be improved, particularly the distribution of the QuadFit and the new design of the Dynamic Fit Collar. In the first generation of the Nike Phantom Vision Elite, we saw that the fit and the material were perhaps not quite up to the standard expected of a top-of-the-range boot.
