Recently, football boot brands have been spoiling us with reissues of iconic models. In the last few days, Nike has launched a model that was first introduced in 2001: the Nike Air Zoom Mercurial. Twenty-one years later, the Nike Air Zoom Mercurial is back in fashion.
The American brand has waited for the best moment to present this authentic masterpiece, as the current Mercurial boots feature “Air Zoom Technology”, which consists of a pressurised air chamber in the sole that provides greater cushioning when in contact with the pitch. Like the current Nike Mercurials, the 2001 Nike Air Zoom Mercurials also offered this advanced innovation for the first time in a football boot.
This special edition is a nod to the Mercurial's origins, which is precisely why Nike has given the Retro a new look inspired by the original model. The boot's aesthetics are very similar to the original, providing a fairly faithful replica. In terms of technology, however, it has nothing in common with the 2001 Mercurial, as the innovations featured in this latest release are the same as those in the new generation of Nike Mercurial boots. The main colours are a dark shade of black and copper, reminiscent of the colours in Nike's latest World Cup pack.
