First of all, Rubén... How did that call come about?
It was an unexpected call from the director of Albacete Balompié's youth academy.
Being so young, training with second tier players made me very excited, especially learning from them. I was fulfilling a dream at the age of 14.
Now you're part of one of the best clubs in the world. How has everything changed?
It has changed in many ways, especially in terms of rivalry. When I arrived at Real Madrid, I met my teammates and knew it wasn't going to be easy. I learned that if you want to be a footballer, it's not just about training, it's 24 hours a day. Your diet, rest and desire to improve every day also have an influence.
When did you discover SP? What do you look for most in a glove?
I discovered Soloporteros at a very young age. When I was eight, I went to the Soloporteros school in La Roda (Albacete), run by my great friend Raimundo Salas, an excellent goalkeeper coach. I went there for five years in a row. In gloves, I look for security and grip, which is an important factor for me.
At Futbol Emotion Academy, we take great care in the specific training of goalkeepers. What is it like living at the Training Ground with the other goalkeepers?
We get along very well. We have healthy competition to achieve the same goals, and that makes you improve without even realising it.
In terms of training equipment (boxes, ramps, lights, etc.), what equipment do you like working with the most?
The ones we use most are the rebound box and the ramps, but without a doubt, my favourite is the inflatable dummy, as I can use it in many different ways.
That's all, Rubén. We'd like you to give some advice to all our young players who attend our Camps, Clinics, etc.
With hard work and effort, rewards will come, and that they have to be patient and wait for their moment to shine.
Going to the camps is a wonderful experience: training with professionals, meeting people and, above all, learning.
