Just recently, the new kits were unveiled for one of the most beloved and admired national teams in the world of football – a team that always puts on a show and has produced some of the greatest talents in history. We are, of course, talking about the Brazilian national team, which yesterday unveiled its new home and away jerseys for upcoming competitions.
It certainly can’t have been an easy task to design these kits, given that we’re talking about one of the most successful and historic national teams of all time. Their jersey must live up to both the country’s history and the players who represent it – true legends such as Neymar, Vinicius Jr., Alisson and many more. That is why Nike has looked to the past for inspiration, drawing on one of the most iconic jerseys in Brazil’s history – the one worn by the man who, for many, remains the greatest footballer of all time: Pelé. Let’s take a closer look at these two new designs.
HOME JERSEY
As we mentioned, designing a jersey with such a rich history is no easy task. Although at first glance it may seem like a simple design, behind it lie decades of tradition. We see the classic colours of the “Canarinha”: a vibrant yellow that dominates almost the entire jersey, accompanied by various green accents. This characteristic canary yellow covers the entire jersey, whilst the green appears in small details on the collar and sleeve cuffs, forming distinctive triangular patterns. Furthermore, the Nike logo, positioned in the top right-hand corner, also appears in green, whilst on the left-hand side we find the traditional Brazilian national team crest.
AWAY JERSEY
We now turn to the kit that the Brazilian players will wear in their away matches. The concept isn’t entirely new, as Brazil has used blue as the main colour for its away kit on numerous occasions. However, this year Nike has sought to give it a much more modern twist. The main new feature is the colour gradient: at the top, we find a much darker, more intense blue, which gradually lightens as we move down the jersey.
Furthermore, if we look closely at the design, we can see various graphics integrated into the background. Notable features include diamond shapes that accompany the change in shade and several lines that create a pleasant sense of movement. On this occasion, Nike’s famous Swoosh appears in yellow, the same shade used for the players’ numbers. Finally, as with the home jersey, the Brazil crest occupies the top left of the chest.
