Turkey are not a team to be underestimated; quite the opposite: they deserve our full attention, as they arrive at the European Championship in fine form. From the defensive partnership formed by the towering Demiral and Söyüncü, through to the magic at the feet of Çalhanoğlu, and finishing with the goalscorer Yılmaz. But Italy also have a lot to prove and, for many, could be the big surprise of Euro 2020.
Should they top their group, and provided the other groups perform as expected, the Azzurri could face Belgium in the quarter-finals – a side with a formidable attack and a host of top-class players. If Italy were to overcome that hypothetical tie, and the other matches go according to plan, they could find themselves up against France, Italy’s historic rivals and the favourites in this tournament.
All this is nothing more than speculation – hypothetical scenarios we might see during the Euro. But now it’s time to put all that aside and focus on the match: all that’s left to say is “FORZA, AZZURRI!”
