Merry Christmas to everyone!

Christmas is finally here, and we’d love to celebrate it with you and give you all a big hug, but that’s not possible right now. However, just like any proper Christmas dinner, we’ll look back together on the good times we’ve shared!

The big day is finally here – the one everyone loves: young and old, parents and children alike. 25 December is a special day for everyone, but this year will be completely different. We won’t be able to celebrate the festive season as usual, nor hug or kiss the people we love most… but we mustn’t despair, because we’ll be able to enjoy the festive season as we used to once again. In the meantime, we thought we’d look back at some of the best moments of 2020, just as we might sit down with the family at Christmas dinner to laugh and get emotional as we recall some of the experiences we’ve had over the year. And on this post, of course, we’ll be doing so by talking about football. We’ll take a brief look back at 2020, recalling the moments that best defined it, discussing matches, football boots, gloves and much more. If you want to relive emotions like these, stick with us!

TOP MATCHES IN 2020

Let’s start with what we love most: football, watching the ball go into the net and celebrating with our loved ones. That’s why we’re going to give a brief rundown of the matches that have thrilled us the most.

Without a doubt, one of the matches Italians will remember most is the clash between Gasperini’s magical Atalanta and Neymar and Mbappé’s elegant PSG – a match that promised so much and certainly delivered. La Dea, after a marvellous season in Serie A, came close to achieving a feat in Europe too, but following goals from Marquinhos and Choupo-Moting, they ended up being defeated. Credit to the Bergamo side, who gave their fans and all football lovers something to dream about.

Another match that will be remembered, especially for having been played in the midst of the 2020 lockdown, was Bayern Munich v Barcelona. A fixture in which the Blaugranas were crushed by the German machine, conceding eight goals. A sporting disaster that the Catalans will remember forever. Many tipped the Bavarians as favourites, but no one expected such a huge gulf between the two sides.

Another match that provided us with great thrills was the Milan derby. The Rossoneri started by leading 2–0, but in the second half they suffered one of the most spectacular and emphatic comebacks of recent years. In the second 45 minutes, the Nerazzurri ran riot against their eternal rivals, scoring four goals to seal a 4-2 victory.

TOP PRODUCTS IN 2020

Let’s now turn our attention to the best products of 2020 – the football boots, gloves and jerseys that made this year something special on the pitch.

Without a doubt, the Predator range was the product line that revolutionised the year, making a huge leap forward and winning over many amateur and professional footballers. The Predator glove is currently one of the most widely used, an innovative product that has been highly appreciated by goalkeepers. The Predator football boot also made its mark in 2020, offering a modern product with nods to the past and the history of this range.

The brand that performed best over the year was probably Puma, launching high-quality accessories such as the new Ultra model, in both boots and gloves, and above all managing to sign one of the most high-profile players of recent times: Neymar.

Nike was not far behind either. With the new Phantom GT, it gave its two main rivals a run for their money, as this is undoubtedly one of the best products launched by the American brand in recent years.

Of course, it’s not just Puma, Nike and adidas. Other brands also did an excellent job, such as New Balance, which was one of the most innovative and active, unveiling a new laceless boot like the Tekela and revamping the Furon, boots worn by one of the world’s best players, Sané.

2020, THE MOST DRAMATIC YEAR IN RECENT MEMORY

It hasn’t all been good news. In fact, this has probably been the year in which we’ve received more sad news than ever before, both inside and outside the world of football.

Although the first few months seemed like those of a normal year, that was not the case. Quite the opposite. This year will go down in history as the year of the global pandemic, the year in which the world ground to a halt for several months: everything at a standstill, everyone at home unable to go out, time frozen.

Unfortunately, the world had to come to a standstill and, of course, so did football. Just at the most crucial moment of the season, the sport saw all its doors shut and was forced to stop. Stadiums closed, matches suspended and competitions temporarily halted.

They were difficult months for everyone, but fortunately, little by little, we are coming back to life, breathing football once more and getting excited again with every goal scored or conceded.

And it wasn’t just a major pandemic that struck the world. We also lost two great legends who left an indelible mark on the history of football. 2020 will be remembered for the passing of Diego Maradona, for many the greatest player of all time, an absolute idol on the pitch, a World Cup winner with Argentina and an eternal symbol for the people of Naples.

A legend has left us, a part of football has gone, but as long as a ball continues to roll across a pitch, Diego will live on.

Fate also decreed that Pelusa would not be the only one playing in heaven and, sadly, it also took from us one of the heroes of the 1982 World Cup: Paolo Rossi. A footballer loved by all, who won the affection of an entire nation thanks to his humility and talent.

We’d like to end by wishing you a Merry Christmas, hoping you can enjoy it with the people you love most and have a wonderful time.
