Many of you who regularly read our posts will be used to seeing reviews of football boots or goalkeeper gloves, as well as everything else related to our sport, but like everything in life, things evolve and take on a new style and form. The video game industry has already overtaken the film and music industries globally, bringing together millions of players every day from all over the world. Whether it’s to play, stream live, or watch other players’ reactions on YouTube or services like Twitch and Mixer, its mass appeal is undeniable. And amongst the phenomena it has achieved during this time, eSports (or electronic sports) have now fully established themselves. But many may not know what this phenomenon is.
To think that watching Team Heretics—or any other team or video game—on a stream or at a tournament is boring, so to speak; are you just watching someone play a video game? It’s like watching a football match, simply because you’re watching 22 players running after a ball. Let’s put that aside and move on. A few years ago, we would never have thought that the video game revolution would reach such extremes, as ‘gaming’ players have become genuine media personalities; on a par with footballers. Our sport is passion, it is dedication, something that comes from within. We can play it, watch it on our TVs, and even experience a FIFA LVP final from the comfort of our living rooms. It’s all absolutely FOOTBALL. The same goes for Call of Duty, Rainbow Six, Fortnite or LoL, to name but a few.
Team Heretics kit by adidas
Team Heretics is a team founded in August 2016 by Goorgo and Grefg, two well-known Spanish YouTubers, who were later joined by Sergio Reguilón, who plays for Tottenham. They began competing in League of Legends and Counter-Strike, and later in Clash Royale, establishing themselves as one of the top teams in the national first division. Today, CS:GO, Fortnite and Rainbow Six are their strong points.
Heretics’ new adidas performance jersey will be the kit they wear as they strive for sporting success throughout 2020 and 2021. It is made from a breathable fabric with a silky feel, offering comfort during tense moments on the pitch or simply when cheering on the team.
Interesting facts: Team Heretics
Don’t for a moment think that the players who are part of Heretics simply ‘play the video game and that’s it’. Players on an eSports team spend a lot of time together. And they don’t just spend that time playing; their training isn’t just about going all out in the game. Many of them live together practically 24 hours a day in gaming houses, where they undergo a comprehensive training regime. As well as playing (which, of course, they do), they do physical exercise, have physiotherapy sessions, take part in outdoor activities, group dynamics and psychological therapy sessions to help them cope with the pressure they are often under. For this to work, everyone needs to understand one another and be able to communicate, and English is usually the language of choice. That is why English lessons are included to ensure perfect understanding at an international level.
Although we often forget, an esports team isn’t made up of just the players. There’s a huge number of people behind the scenes: coaches, managers, communications and marketing staff, physiotherapists, psychologists, lawyers and many more. Just like with a professional football team.
