Today, the German brand has revealed the ball that we’ll see used by great champions such as Neymar, Messi and Ronaldo, and we’re really delighted to finally have it in our hands and to imagine all the goals that will be scored with it. So, let’s take a closer look at this new ball straight away.
This year, adidas has opted for lighter colours and a retro style, which complement each other perfectly. We see the now-classic white, which features on practically all adidas match balls in this competition. Blue also features, used to colour the edges of the stars that form the ball’s panels. Furthermore, if you look closely, within these blue edges you’ll find even smaller stars that extend across the entire surface of the ball. These small stars create very subtle raised patterns that provide better grip in all weather conditions, for both outfield players and goalkeepers.
As well as blue and white, there is also a fairly light red and a very soft shade of sky blue, which fill the spaces between the stars that form the ball’s panels. Finally, it is worth noting that this will be the ball used during the Champions League group stage, so we will see it in action for the first time in September. As for the improvements compared to previous seasons, adidas has focused particularly on two key aspects: flight stability and grip. The ball will be much more stable in flight and, above all, will offer greater grip to help goalkeepers in particular, who have often complained that some balls had too much spin or were difficult to control in heavy rain and cold conditions.
