This fantastic kit won over the ‘Gunners’ fans in the early 90s, and as soon as the deal with adidas was signed, there were constant calls for a return to this look. adidas took note of the fans’ requests and has brought us a new kit inspired by that legendary ‘bruised banana’ jersey.
Arsenal away kit
As expected, the jersey features yellow as the base colour for the away kit – a vibrant yellow through which a pattern of black lines can be glimpsed, representing the markings or stripes of a ripe banana. Compared to the previous jersey, the design has changed: this time, the stripes are much less prominent and run horizontally, whereas in the original version they were vertical and much larger.
The classic black adidas stripes run along the sleeves of the jersey, and the collar has been modified compared to the home kit, featuring a round neckline that is more minimalist and offers greater adaptability for each player. The brand’s sponsor logos remain in black, standing out even more against the overall yellow of the Arsenal jersey.
From a technical perspective, the jersey retains the very best technology from adidas and moves away slightly from that baggy 90s aesthetic, offering a much more form-fitting and comfortable design, more in keeping with modern trends. Climachill is the name given to the jersey's fabric, and it ensures the best possible fit, with optimal sweat-wicking, preventing the kit from feeling ‘heavy’ as the match progresses.
Ian Wright, Andy Cole and the rest of Arsenal’s 1990s stars wore this kit, which the ‘Gunners’ fans loved so much. Now it is the turn of Aubameyang, Lacazette, Torreira and the new signings to once again lead their club to the top of the Premier League in this jersey.
