Today we’re talking about one of the greatest champions of all time, a player who made history whilst wearing the Real Madrid jersey and the Spanish national team kit. A player remembered by everyone for his incredible saves, but also for the wonderful person he has been off the pitch. He has always been described as a down-to-earth, humble and generous chap.
Iker Casillas went from playing in Real Madrid’s youth teams to making his first-team debut practically overnight, during the 1998–99 season, when he was still very young. Even in his early years, he managed to stand out and carve out a place for himself amongst the great stars who were part of the team at that time. However, the road was not all plain sailing, as the following season he was not an undisputed first-choice goalkeeper and spent part of the year on the bench. But when the moment of truth arrived, he was there. In fact, he had to come on as a substitute during a Champions League final and, thanks to his superb saves, helped the team lift the trophy, whilst also being one of the standout players of the match.
From that moment on, Iker went on to win title after title with Real Madrid and the Spanish national team. He did all this as captain, an undisputed leader who changed the history of Spanish football by winning three Champions Leagues, five La Liga titles, two Euros and a World Cup, playing a starring role in the final of the latter. We all remember how he managed to stop Robben at the decisive moment of that final, before lifting the trophy himself to make Spain world champions for the first time in their history.
After 15 seasons at Real Madrid, Casillas moved to Portugal to play for Porto, a club that would go on to become his second home. He continued his career there until, sadly, he was forced to leave the pitch after suffering a heart attack.
Throughout his career, we have seen Iker wear adidas goalkeeper gloves, as well as various pairs of football boots. He also wore Reebok kit for a time, and even won the World Cup whilst wearing their gloves. However, for much of his career, the Spanish goalkeeper wore and represented adidas.
This has been a brief overview of Iker Casillas’ career and his football gloves and boots. It’s an honour for us to dedicate this post to a goalkeeper who won the hearts of all the fans with his saves.
