The new Nike Phantom Venom Tech Craft football boots are making a comeback, just as their sister model did in September with the Nike Mercurial Vapor XIII Elite Tech Craft boots. In 2015, the American brand unveiled something that took everyone by surprise: the famous ‘Tech Craft Pack’, which featured each pair of Nike football boots clad in exquisite kangaroo leather, lending that exquisite leather feel to the entire range. These weren’t your typical leather boots; instead, the upper was lined with leather, offering the best of both worlds: the precise, unchanging fit of synthetic or knitted football boots, and the elegant, unique feel of kangaroo leather.
The pack was a huge success and spawned several successors, with variations in colours and styles, eventually leading to the launch of different versions of each of the silos in kangaroo leather – a move that marked a milestone in the current football boot landscape.
Natural leather Nike Phantom Venom
Its PRECISION PWR technology in the striking zone is, unsurprisingly, covered in natural leather, which really catches the eye. It feels as though we’re briefly returning to the technologies so widely used in the early 2000s, when the striking zones on football boots were a key focus for leading brands. Thanks to these reinforced strips in the area most frequently struck, two essential factors are enhanced: both accuracy and ball speed when shooting. At the toe, we can see how the natural leather on the Nike boot is entirely covered with small hexagons manufactured using high-frequency technology to further increase grip on the ball.
As with the Nike Mercurial models, the Nike Phantom Vision football boot and, to a much lesser extent, the Nike Tiempo Legend VIII, this new Nike Phantom Venom also features the famous Flyknit upper, very similar to that of its sister model, the Phantom Vision; this time to create a sort of pocket into which the laces can be tucked when tying them (something like Ghost Laces, but more discreet). The Flyknit doesn’t come on its own, as Nike has made clear. The natural leather clearly highlights the DYNAMIC FLYWARE CABLES technology. This ensures that the entire foot is perfectly secure and snug, thanks to cables that run seamlessly across the instep of the foot.
Finally, let’s move on to what gives meaning to the word ‘ATTACK’. Up to 12 laminated studs facing each other and just two inner studs for greater stability in this chrome-plated sole. This is designed to ensure a precise reaction speed, tailored for ‘skipping’-style movements – the kind that, more often than not, leave the defender flat on their back. The plate assembly has been named the HYPER REACTIVE PLATE 2.0, the perfect definition of a sole inspired by athletics, in the form of a football boot.
