13th of May 2012: Manchester City face the final day of the league season at home against QPR. A win would secure the title for the Citizens 44 years on, but if they fail to do so, their eternal rivals, Manchester United, will lift the trophy.
We reach the 93rd minute, the score is 2-2, Kun Agüero picks up the ball, links up with Balotelli, and strikes at goal with the force of the 55,097 spectators packing the Etihad Stadium. At that moment, the history of Manchester City was changed.
Today, Puma has unveiled Manchester City’s new kit for the 21/22 season, paying homage to the jersey the Citizens wore ten years ago. It’s a simple design overall, with sky blue taking centre stage – as you’d expect – and white stripes down the sides. But let’s take a closer look at the details of Manchester City’s new kit.
Let’s start by talking about the print. A series of geometric shapes, representing the board used by the fourth official to display the score, give this jersey a unique touch. This print covers the entire jersey, including the collar and sleeves, allowing the beautiful sky blue chosen by Puma to dress the reigning Premier League champions to take centre stage.
Another detail is the return to white for the sponsors’ logos and the brand logo, something we haven’t seen on the Sky Blues since the 2010/2011 season. In our view, the return to white for all the details is a brilliant move by the German brand, as we can’t think of a better colour to complement this sky blue.
Moving on to the rest of the kit, there are also some new features worth highlighting. Next season, Manchester City will be dressed entirely in sky blue, including shorts and socks, which looks spectacular thanks to the wonderful shade of blue chosen by Puma for the English side, and which continues to pay homage to that kit with which Kun used to find the back of the QPR net.
Last but not least, we find the detail that ties together all the similarities between this jersey and the 2012 one. On the inside of the collar, we can see the numbers ‘93:20’ – the exact moment when Kun Agüero’s shot crossed the goal line, securing the league title for Manchester City 44 years later.

It also contains recycled material, made from recycled fibres. This is one of Puma’s initiatives to reduce its environmental impact.
