Within what we call control boots, there are two very clear options and two very different ways of approaching this type of football boot. However, we are going to analyse three key points of each of the boots: grip, comfort and sole, to see which will be the best option for each of you.
Grip
We start with grip, and we have two very different types of elements that reinforce that touch with the ball. On the Nike football boots, we have a Flyknit upper where the entire front area incorporates Nikegrip technology, which is a knit coating that guarantees a clean, lightweight grip that is still rough enough to be noticeable.
Moving on to adidas football boots, we have the new ‘high definition grip’, which is embedded in the new Hybrid Touch upper and consists of all the rubber inserts on the upper, a true Predator feature. It provides great grip in practically any situation, especially when shooting and passing, and the ease with which we can turn the ball is very noticeable.
Therefore, in this regard, it is a matter of preference. If you are seeking a very aggressive grip, even if the casing is somewhat less malleable, the adidas Predator Accuracy is the choice. However, if you prefer a slightly less ambitious but noticeable grip, the Phantom Gx is clearly the better option.
Comfort
Let's move on to a very personal aspect, which is therefore a matter of individual opinion. The Nike Phantom Gx boots are very comfortable thanks to the flyknit upper. They are lightweight, flexible and have a slightly softer sole than previous generations, which, added to the above, means they take very little time to mould to your feet.
On the adidas Predator Accuracy side, we have a much sturdier, heavier boot that is, of course, more adaptable to wider feet. The new shell makes them less clunky than previous generations, although if we compare them to the Phantom, they are clearly bulkier. If you like sturdy boots, there's no question about it.
Sole
The sole of the Nike Phantom GX is lightweight and comfortable, but offers remarkable traction thanks to its triple studs and highly noticeable flex groove. If you like to run at top speed without losing any touch, these are probably the boots for you.
Moving on to Predator, we have a wider last and less aggressive studs, despite being a slightly more reactive sole. The ‘Facet Frame’ plate guarantees traction in all directions and a very stable footfall.

In conclusion, which boot is better? As in many cases, it depends. The improvement of both boots compared to their previous generation is noticeable, giving us two options that are both excellent choices. If you are looking for a more structured boot with super aggressive grip and you are not too concerned about weight or a more classic style, the adidas Predator Accuracy is the best option. If, on the other hand, you want a lighter boot with good traction and extra grip on every touch, the Nike Phantom Gx is the right choice. Now all that's left is to choose one of the two.
