A new Lotto football boot is set to take on the big names. This is how the Italian brand is positioning itself for the new 2019/2020 season, as we also saw with the launch of its laceless boot, the Lotto Solista 100. And whilst these two football boots might lead you to think they are inspired by – or ‘copies’ of – other brands, make no mistake: the Italian brand Lotto are pioneers and true connoisseurs of innovation and classic design.
Lotto Stadio 100 II football boots
A classic football boot such as the Lotto Stadio has been given a fresh new look and adapted to modern football. One thing worth highlighting before we get into the details is that this Stadio II football boot still retains the DNA of the original – a point the Italian brand has been keen to emphasise.
Let’s start by talking about the history of this football boot, as Lotto was one of the leading brands in the 1980s and 1990s. The Lotto Stadio football boot was worn by the likes of Gheorghe Hagi, Clarence Seedorf, Cafú and Ballon d’Or winner Andriy Shevchenko, who was playing for AC Milan at the time. This football boot reminds us of the golden age of sports equipment, particularly as it relates to our sport. That classic tongue, the large ‘Lotto’ logo on the heel and that distinctive touch of green. A feel that transports us back to a bygone era of football, one that many of us miss dearly.
We’ve already discussed the current Stadio 100 II, and we’ll do so by looking at its upper. The upper is made from a blend of materials, with the exceptionally soft, top-quality K Premium leather reserved solely for the striking zone and forefoot. This will give us a classic feel, a different touch on the ball and, above all, the comfort that Lotto is renowned for offering its customers. This K leather is combined with a knitted panel that starts from the midfoot of the boot, with the necessary thickness to ensure a perfect fit around the foot, and extends down to the ankle area using a much finer, more comfortable yarn.
The fit of this new Lotto football boot is simple, just as it has always been with football boots. It is interesting to see how Lotto’s aim comes to the fore: for the Stadio 100 II to be not only a classic boot, but also a versatile and reliable boot in every respect, fully equipped even for the most aggressive play. We can see that the K-leather upper features a strip of natural leather added around the boot’s eyelets. At first glance, one might think this is purely for aesthetic purposes, but that is far from the case. It acts as reinforcement and complements the stitching added to the leather. This means that this boot can be used by both pacey players and those with a flair for the game.
As we have mentioned, one of the key features of the Stadio 100 football boot is its lightness; to this end, the manufacturers have incorporated a reactive nylon plate featuring PUNTO FLEX technology. It features 5 conical studs that ensure stability, flexibility and changes of direction; 6 semi-conical studs, positioned in strategic areas to ensure acceleration, traction and braking; and 1 laminar traction stud in the metatarsal area to increase propulsion. The aforementioned PUNTO FLEX technology is responsible for the plate’s resilience, ensuring better flex in the forefoot of the boot.
We were keen to see the Italian brand’s new ranges, and it’s clear that Lotto’s football boots are back to stay – they’re back to make a splash and remind footballers that all the marketing hype surrounding the big brands isn’t everything.
