Puma Future 5.1 Laceless by Marco Reus

Today we’re here to discuss a topic that has been the subject of much discussion on social media and also within Fútbol Emotion itself. Is it true that Puma makes special lace-free boots for Marco Reus? Today we’ll be looking at whether it’s actually possible to remove the laces from the new Puma Future 5.1 boots and wear them in the same way as Marco Reus and Marko Arnautovic.

This is nothing new, and it is unlikely to change in the future either, as anyone who follows the German star closely knows full well that, whenever he has the chance, he plays in his Puma football boots without laces. However, these boots do not feature any technological modifications that would allow him to do so without consequences. Furthermore, we have been told that his boots are exactly the same as those worn by the rest of his Puma-sponsored teammates.

Puma Future 5.1 Laceless

As we’re talking about boots that come with laces as standard, to properly assess whether it’s possible to play in them without laces, we must start by removing them. It’s important to note that this step must be carried out with the utmost care so as not to damage the boots. Once the laces have been removed, we can begin to discuss our initial impressions. In fact, the very first sensation – and the one that makes the biggest impression – is that the boots are much, much easier to put on, as removing the laces also eliminates that restrictive area on the instep. Following this initial sensation comes a feeling of comfort and greater freedom of movement for the foot inside the boot. And this is where the various drawbacks come into play – which is why, here at Fútbol Emotion, we strongly advise against removing the laces from these boots or any others. These drawbacks include: a loss of stability, a feeling of insecurity, reduced efficiency when passing, shooting and controlling the ball, and an increased risk of injuries, such as tears and micro-tears.

Why do these situations actually arise? Because the boot loses its primary function. The fact that the new Puma Future boots are considered suitable for a wider foot type is down to their extremely flexible material. Without the support provided by the laces, this same material loses all the elasticity and control it normally offers. It can even cause our foot to shift inside the boot when we plant our foot on the ground, and that is where injuries can occur.

On the positive side, the only things we can highlight are how easy it is to put the boots on and the fact that there is more space to strike the ball when shooting and passing. However, this sole positive aspect can be compromised by poor positioning of your standing foot when shooting, passing or even controlling the ball, as your foot may slip due to the lack of support caused by the absence of laces in the boot.

These are our thoughts on this ‘myth’ about actually removing the laces from our football boots – in this case, the Puma Future. We at Fútbol Emotion do not recommend under any circumstances that you remove the laces from your boots.
