In Brazil’s Série A, the top tier of Brazilian football, the first conclusion we can draw is that adidas and Nike enjoy a very clear and decisive dominance over the other brands. We already know that this is also the case in other leagues and countries, but in Brazil it is even more evident, despite the difficulty in obtaining the latest high-end kits.
Another point to note is that many players wear everything from top-of-the-range football boots to semi-professional ranges and even lower-end models. Another interesting fact is that many of these same players choose to wear quite old colourways and boot ranges.
Diego Ribas (Flamengo) - adidas Predator 18.1
Rainier (Flamengo) - Puma Evospeed
Our main conclusion on this matter is very clear: we believe this happens much more frequently than, for example, in Europe, due to the difficulties players face when buying or deciding which boots to wear, as these newer, more recent ranges arrive in Brazil much later.
Among the most prominent brands in the Brasileirão are adidas, Nike, Mizuno, Umbro and Puma. Most of this market is controlled by adidas and Nike. The same is true of the kits worn by the leading clubs, where the market is dominated by Nike, adidas and Umbro.
Most used boots
When we came to the most popular ranges, it became clear that Brazilian players favour two in particular: the Nike Mercurial and the adidas Nemeziz football boots. One of the most interesting discoveries was seeing the variety of adidas X ranges on offer. We also found other ranges that were to be expected, but all the others are far less prevalent than the ones we’ve just mentioned.
Gabriel Barbosa (Flamengo) - Nike Mercurial
Everton (Grêmio) - Nike Mercurial
Deyverson (Palmeiras) - adidas Nemeziz
In conclusion, it is quite easy to recognise the dominance of adidas and Nike, even in a country where it is difficult to get hold of their latest ranges in good time. We believe that in the 2020 season these two brands will face stiff competition from Puma, as the German firm clearly intends to launch its new agility boot, the Puma Future 5.1, in a country that loves and lives for football.
