A new season awakens many feelings in us. Nerves, intrigue, excitement... Will my team make it to the top? Will it avoid being at the bottom? Who knows? The only thing that is certain is that from Sunday at 9 p.m., when the La Liga ball starts rolling on the pitch at El Sadar Stadium, we can look forward to many enjoyable Sundays. But what we're here for today is to review (in alphabetical order) the home jerseys of the 20 teams that will compete in La Liga 22/23, and we'll start with UD Almería.
Castore, an English brand that is joining our league this season, is responsible for making Almería's jersey. It is a simple design, something that fans appreciate after last season's risky jersey, featuring thin lines on either side of the red stripes. The red collar and white sleeve trim are the details that accompany a classic design with which UD Almería will once again compete in the top flight of Spanish football.
ATHLETIC CLUB
And from red and white to red and white. Athletic Club is preparing for a new season in the first division without losing either its philosophy or its colours. New Balance continues to be the brand chosen by the Bilbao team for the design and manufacture of its kit, which, as a highlight, features a button on the collar so that each player can choose their preferred fit for that part of the new Athletic Club jersey. The rest is simple: red and white stripes with black details and the soul of a lion, so that the Basques can achieve all their goals for another year.
ATLÉTICO DE MADRID
Well, it looks like we're going to see a lot of white and red stripes in La Liga this year. Atlético Madrid is kicking off a new season with a solid squad and the biggest controversy of the year regarding the design of its jersey. What the club and Nike proposed as a tribute to the Manzanares, the iconic river next to which the Vicente Calderón Stadium was built, has sparked one of the biggest outbursts of anger in recent memory among Atlético fans, who even tried to stop the launch of the jersey, citing the loss of the club's identity. This attempt was unsuccessful, as we have seen the Spanish capital's club playing in Atlético Madrid's new jersey on several occasions, and this will continue for the rest of the season.
FC BARCELONA
And without leaving the vertical stripes behind, we travel to Barcelona to see FC Barcelona's new jersey. The Catalan club surprises us once again with an avant-garde design, mixing different shades of blue that we haven't seen on FC Barcelona jerseys for a long time. The main novelty is that the central stripes are divided between three colours, royal blue, dark blue and red, distributed equally across the front of the shirt. The darkest shade is undoubtedly the star of the entire kit, as it not only appears on the jersey, but also colours the shorts and socks completely.
CÁDIZ CLUB DE FÚTBOL
Sympathy in Spanish football is dressed in yellow. One of the teams most loved by football fans will remain in the first division for another year, and the Italian brand Macron will be responsible for dressing them. The design is simple. A yellow base with some discreet blue details that tie together Cádiz's new jersey for the 22/23 season and the rest of the kit. Eye-catching and energetic, just like its fans, this is what Cádiz CF's jersey will look like for next season.
REAL CLUB CELTA DE VIGO
And from one end of Spain to the other. Celta's new jersey is one of the most beautiful in the competition. Iago Aspas's soldiers kicked off a pre-season in which various controversies have been making an appearance since day one. Amidst so much instability, the new jersey is a source of joy for Vigo fans due to its beauty. The colour gold takes centre stage, adorning the three adidas stripes, the collar and the German brand's logo. The rest is a wonderful shade of sky blue, the hallmark of the Galician team.
ELCHE CF
Elche CF is celebrating its centenary, making this one of the most eagerly awaited jerseys of the season in La Liga. Against the usual white background, a green stripe stands out, simulating the effect of a brushstroke on canvas. Gold is the colour chosen for the details on Elche's new jersey, a shade that references the club's centenary, with the hope that this will be a golden season for the institution.
RCD ESPANYOL DE BARCELONA
We return to the city of Barcelona to see Espanyol's new jersey for the coming season. The Spanish brand Kelme will once again be dressing the Cornellá-based club for the fourth consecutive year, this time presenting us with a jersey in which white and blue share equal prominence. The details are made up of fine lines painted in white on the blue base and in blue on the white base, a way of offering something different to a design that is not easy to innovate.
GETAFE CF
The partnership between Getafe and Joma remains strong for another season. This season, the Azulones will add a touch of green to their usual all-blue jersey, bringing a splash of colour to a design that used to be too classic and boring. Even so, the royal blue colour, customary for Getafe, will continue to be the main feature on a jersey that promises great success thanks to the team being put together by the Madrid club.
GIRONA FC
We don't know if they're here to stay, but they're certainly here to make a statement. Girona, in collaboration with Puma, has unveiled a distinctive, modern jersey that breaks with convention. The Catalan team's classic stripes change direction depending on which part of the jersey they are printed on, creating a pattern that is sure to turn heads. The season has not yet begun, but we already know that Girona's new jersey will be one of the most memorable for its fans.
RCD MALLORCA
We boarded the plane with our flip-flops and swimsuits in our suitcases to see RCD Mallorca's new jersey for the 22/23 season. Red is the colour that represents the Balearic club, but it is true that black has always played a prominent role in the Son Moix team's kit. This season, both colours are featured on the jersey in a modern design that blends football with fashion and has sparked excitement among the Palma club's fans.
CA OSASUNA
Looking at CA Osasuna's new jersey, we wonder what colour will the thermal shirt be. In this new design, Adidas has decided to dye each sleeve a different colour, which means that once the players put on the long-sleeved undershirt, one sleeve will start in one colour and change when the short sleeve ends. As for the design, the dark tones of red and blue make the three adidas stripes stand out prominently on the shoulders, as well as adding some light to the overall look of the jersey. It is a groundbreaking design with which the city of Pamplona hopes to continue to consolidate its position in the first division.
RAYO VALLECANO
The Rayo Vallecano jersey for the 22/23 season is perhaps the one that has changed the least compared to its predecessor. Umbro continues with its philosophy of representing the club's name in the jersey design, turning the iconic diagonal stripe on the Madrid club's jersey into a lightning bolt. The main details are the black sleeves and collar, which act as a backdrop for the brand's red logo. It's a design that may not convince purists, but it certainly represents the club perfectly.
REAL BETIS BALOMPIÉ
These are good times for Betis fans, and the club has decided to add another asset to the cause in the form of a technical sponsor. Hummel has become the brand responsible for designing Betis' new jersey for the 22/23 season, and it has done a wonderful job. Unsurprisingly, the green and white stripes take centre stage on the jersey, mixed with black for the details. Speaking of details, a triangle referencing the club's crest appears subtly on the front of the jersey, adding identity and exclusivity to the design.
REAL MADRID CF
The Whites, in white. Real Madrid's new jersey leaves no room for surprise. A white canvas featuring logos and the crest, with the only new feature being the lilac colour of the German brand's three stripes on the shoulders and a polo collar that we have seen the club wear on previous occasions. A sober and classic design for the jersey, which is being launched in a special season for the current European champions, as the club will be celebrating its 120th anniversary.
REAL SOCIEDAD
We return to northern Spain to take a look at Real Sociedad's new jersey. The “txuri urdin” team continues to gain fans thanks to its good play and the overall appeal of the club, which means that every season more jerseys are sold by the club and Macron, the brand responsible for manufacturing them. The Basque team's new kit still features white and blue vertical stripes, but this time the blue changes shade as if someone had painted them badly with a freehand brush. Another great creation from the Italian brand, which is becoming increasingly present on pitches around the world.
REAL VALLADOLID
We arrive in Pucela to find another of the summer's soap operas. Real Valladolid has decided that the time has come to modernise its crest, giving it a more contemporary design in which the colours white and purple feature more prominently. This has not gone down well with the fans, who have been up in arms from the outset and demanding a reversal by the club, which has not happened. All this affects Real Valladolid's new jersey for next season, because although it is true that most fans like the design, the introduction of the new crest makes it one of the most hated jerseys in the history of the Castile and León team.
SEVILLA FC
New season, new goals, new players and new brand. Castore enters the league with great force, creating the jersey for one of the most important teams in Spanish football, something that will give the brand the visibility it seeks to achieve with this move. As for the jersey, simplicity is the word. A white base with a subtle sublimation inspired by the city of Seville that is barely noticeable during play, with the only detail being the appearance of red on the collar trim.
VALENCIA CF
And from simple white to simpler white. This is a special year for Valencia as their temple celebrates its 100th anniversary, and to mark the occasion, the club has decided to look to the past and bring back a classic, simple and clean design. Valencia's new jersey for the 22/23 season is a tribute to the 100 years of wonderful football that Mestalla has been able to enjoy Sunday after Sunday.
VILLARREAL CF
Last but not least, we present Villarreal CF's new jersey for the 22/23 season. If someone told us it was the same as last year's, we would believe them, but that doesn't take away from the fact that it's one of the most beautiful jerseys in the competition. The 21/22 season put Villarreal on the map, reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League and winning a place in the hearts of all lovers of the beautiful game. For this season, both the club and Joma have decided not to change the design of the jersey too much, hoping that with a bit of luck, everything will turn out as well as last season.
