As you know, this weekend has been packed with matches. At last, we’ve been able to enjoy a weekend full of football again, with great matches and goals, particularly in LaLiga and the Bundesliga, although we’ve also been able to enjoy some Italian football. We’re not talking about Serie A, but the Coppa Italia, where two very important matches were played to decide the two finalists. On the one hand, the players wearing the Juventus jersey and, on the other, the team managed by Gattuso, Napoli. They were two rather uneventful matches. In fact, the match between Juventus and Milan ended goalless, although Cristiano Ronaldo had a great chance from the penalty spot; however, between Donnarumma’s save and the post, he failed to score. Even so, Juventus managed to progress to the next round. At the San Paolo, the match also ended in a draw, this time 1–1, with a goal from Mertens and another from Erkin straight from a corner. Although we had high hopes for these matches, they ultimately failed to live up to our expectations. Clearly, the players have not yet regained their competitive rhythm, and it shows.
What’s more, we’ve seen the return of the Spanish league, with some great matches and, of course, spectacular goals and saves. We’ve also seen almost all the players sporting many of the recently released football boots and goalkeeper gloves from the packs originally intended for the Euro. And it has to be said that the leading brands – adidas, Nike and Puma – have done a spectacular job. The adidas football boots from the Uniforia Pack are really lovely. It’s a shame they couldn’t be used at the Euro after all. Puma isn’t far behind either, and we were pleasantly surprised to see players sporting those bold Puma football boots, but above all we really liked how they paired with the goalkeeper gloves. A good example is Oblak, who, as well as sporting the new colourway from the Rise Pack, was wearing Atlético Madrid’s yellow kit, which matched perfectly. Finally, we’ve also seen many players wearing Nike football boots, although they’re the least eye-catching.
But now let’s talk about the results. Both Messi’s Barcelona and Real Madrid, who are still in the running for the title, won their respective away matches: Barcelona beat Granada 0–4 and Madrid beat Eibar 1–3. These were the only two matches with such a wide goal difference and also the two most exciting matches with the most goals. The rest were lower-scoring matches, such as Atlético Madrid’s game in Bilbao, which ended in a 1–1 draw. The most moving moment was Diego Costa’s celebration, in tribute to the Atlético Madrid Women’s player who is overcoming serious health problems.
That’s how the weekend ended, but best of all, we won’t have to wait the whole week to enjoy a match any more. We’ll have more than one match every day and will be able to enjoy one or more matches every day, between the Spanish and German leagues. Football is back, and it shows.
