Let’s take a look at what’s been happening in the major leagues. As you know, we’re approaching the final stretch of the season – the most challenging and exciting time of the year, as the teams are still fighting for all their objectives. We’ll start with Italy and finish by talking about Spain.
Let’s start with Juventus, who won 4–1 in the Turin derby. Cristiano Ronaldo scored from a direct free-kick for the first time in a long while with a spectacular strike. We were also treated to a superb goal from Dybala and a new record for Buffon, who made his 648th Serie A appearance. With this victory, Juventus have the league title all but in the bag, thanks in part to defeats for Lazio and Inter Milan. Conte’s side were beaten 2-1 by Bologna, a very tough defeat that further complicates Inter’s chances of challenging for the title. Meanwhile, Inzaghi’s side also faltered against Pioli’s Milan, who won 3-0 at the Stadio Olimpico to mark the return of Zlatan Ibrahimović, who scored from the penalty spot.
We now turn to the Spanish league, where the two big rivals both secured victory. Real Madrid had a much tougher time beating Athletic Club, thanks to a penalty from Sergio Ramos following a highly controversial and hotly debated incident. Meanwhile, FC Barcelona beat Villarreal 1–4 with a truly stunning goal from Griezmann, who caught everyone by surprise from outside the box with a magnificent header that grazed the crossbar before ending up in the back of the net.
