Although we’re still waiting for that long-awaited return to the pitch, we couldn’t miss out on some new futsal shoes. This time, the American brand New Balance presents a new design of the NB Audazo V5 boot, known by the acronym NBST. The brand with the ‘N’, aware of our eagerness and the lack of pitches in our lives, draws inspiration from and creates for its most loyal fans. The historic American brand NB, a master in the creation and manufacture of running shoes, following considerable growth, has established itself as one of the major players in the football sector. Perhaps at the moment the ‘N’ brand is one of the newcomers, particularly within the world of domestic (Spanish) futsal shoes, as it seems increasingly difficult to make a name for itself alongside legendary brands such as Kelme, Joma or Munich, but New Balance is not giving up.
New Balance Audazo v5 futsal shoes
Having set the bar extremely high with the previous New Balance Audazo v4, the American brand is back with this fifth generation. It’s true that it’s been on the market for a few months now, but this new ‘restyling’ we’re about to show you takes a different approach and offers a different take on the standard version. Behind the acronym NBST lies our way of experiencing football, our way of life, with fashion and street culture taking centre stage. The Audazo NBST gets a lifestyle-focused update; as we mentioned in the video review of the New Balance Audazo v5, we really liked this shoe for wearing on the street, and now all of this is confirmed.
Let’s get straight to the point. Aesthetically speaking, NB has opted for a understated look, incorporating muted colours that are very much in keeping with the coming season. Regardless of personal taste and colour preferences, the upper has been crafted using a breathable construction. It features suede on the toe cap and mesh on both the inner and outer sides. This time, it differs greatly from the launch shoe, as that model is made entirely from natural leather, covering the entire shoe.
For superior ankle support, NB has reintroduced the tubular design, featuring Ariaprene synthetic foam, which strikes a balance between stability, compression, flexibility and breathability. Of course, we mustn’t forget that this is a futsal shoe, and it retains the highly abrasion-resistant inner toe cap to maintain its shape and ensure safe shooting.
Let’s move on to one of the aspects that is becoming increasingly important to futsal players: the cushioning of the shoes. New Balance’s REVlite technology makes a return in this midsole, offering the same features as before, whilst being 5% more responsive. It’s worth noting that it’s very difficult to maintain a highly responsive material that also offers the grip and stability required for a game as multi-directional as futsal, but NB has managed it. The midsole blends seamlessly with a retro-style caramel-coloured outsole made from highly wear-resistant rubber, combining herringbone patterns for excellent grip, grooves for good flex, and a strong pivot point to protect the joints during turns.
This model will, naturally, be endorsed on the pitch by the brand’s top players, including the 2018 European Futsal Champions: European Futsal Champion and Portuguese international Bruno Coelho, Sporting Lisbon captain Erick Mendoza, and F.C. Barcelona player Joselito.
