The new Nike Phantom Vision 2 football boots have arrived at Fútbol Emotion, bringing with them fresh goals and inspiration; everything that happens on the football pitch has a cause and an origin in the lives of every footballer. But, as it happens, each individual’s goal inevitably diverges from that of the rest, with the aim of becoming a professional footballer, winning and, above all, succeeding. This is the ‘claim’ with which Nike wants to help you, through its football boots.

A new colourway with new rules for the American brand’s most iconic boot. Thanks to this new colour scheme, the Phantom Vision is proving to be the star boot amongst all those currently available from Nike. Designed for fast-paced football, a game in which it’s becoming increasingly difficult to evade opponents, and where the battles between forwards, defenders and midfielders are becoming fiercer with every passing season, with the aim, above all else, of controlling the game 100 per cent. This is where Nike has drawn its inspiration to create the new Nike Phantom Vision Elite football boot.

Following Nike Football’s Future Lab collection, something new and fresh was bound to come along, and although we’ve found nothing more than an aesthetic difference, we’ll take a brief look at its technologies.

As always, we’ll start with the upper. For a superb fit, the upper is constructed from a symmetrical Flyknit outer layer, accompanied by the now-familiar Ghost Lace system, which provides a uniform striking surface and allows for customisation of the lacing with a single pull – making it one of the go-to boots for midfielders. The QUADFIT technology makes a return, of course (the triangle on the inside), as it has become the hallmark of this range. It stands out and looks absolutely ready for striking the ball, with a particular emphasis on durability. This time, this technology is positioned further forward on the boot compared to the second generation.

Moving on to the chassis and support. Everything’s spot on, as we can see a heel counter very similar to the one in the first generation, perfect for withstanding all those sudden movements that are so common in our sport. Rounding off the fit, and as a new feature, we see a new Dynamic Fit Collar, designed to provide a more dynamic and elegant silhouette. The ‘sock’ has been lowered below the medial malleolus to maximise ankle mobility and support, much like the design found in the Nike Mercurial Superfly football boots. The ‘sock’ has been lowered below the medial malleolus to maximise ankle mobility and support, much like the design found in Nike Mercurial Superfly football boots. In addition, tabs have been added to make it easier to put the boots on and take them off.

The new plate stands out for being both ultra-lightweight and responsive, thereby reducing weight and maximising the power generated by our legs. The stud layout combines traditional and modern features: there are 14 studs distributed across the areas of lowest pressure, with three of them positioned around the big toe in a circle to aid turning, and four laminated studs on the heel for greater stability.

A question we’ve already tried to raise publicly via ‘El Vestuario’: Is this really a new generation? Or is it more of a restyling? Let’s not kid ourselves, the answer is obvious, but it’s true that Nike has placed a great deal of emphasis on refining areas that could be improved, particularly the distribution of the QuadFit and the new design of the Dynamic Fit Collar. In the first generation of the Nike Phantom Vision Elite, we saw that the fit and the material were perhaps not quite up to scratch for a top-of-the-range boot.
