The strangest boots of Euro 2020

In today’s post, we’re going to take a look at all the most unusual boots worn during the first phase of Euro 2020!

Once again, we’ve seen plenty of players sporting some truly unique football boots. Some are wearing models from previous generations, others are sporting exclusive colourways, and then there are those who opt for less common brands. We’ll be covering all of this in today’s blog!

CR7 Spark Positivity

Amidst the controversy, Cristiano Ronaldo bid farewell to Euro 2020 with an ugly gesture, throwing his national team captain’s armband to the ground. Beyond that, CR7’s tournament was undoubtedly spectacular, breaking record after record. Furthermore, as if his dream debut with two goals wasn’t enough — becoming the competition’s top scorer — Nike decided he should play in a pair of exclusive boots.

These are a pair of Mercurials in a special colourway that we have only seen on the feet of the Portugal captain. It’s a shame his participation ended so soon, as the boots made Ronaldo even more eye-catching on the pitch. This model is named Spark Positivity, in tribute to one of CR7’s greatest virtues: his mentality.

Wijnaldum

Another player knocked out earlier than expected. Much more was expected of the Netherlands, who were knocked out in the round of 16, but their captain left us with a very interesting detail: throughout the tournament, he played in a pair of completely black boots that many couldn’t quite identify.

It was no easy task, as they were a pair of adidas boots not yet released on the market: the new generation of the X. That’s right, Wijnaldum wore a prototype that will soon be unveiled, albeit in a different colourway.

Sterling x New Balance

We now turn to another special edition, this time for England international Raheem Sterling. New Balance wanted to give one of its leading ambassadors a pair of exclusive boots to make him stand out from a sea of similar models.

The model chosen by the England forward is the Furon, the American brand’s speed boot. In this case, the change is purely aesthetic: a white base with blue and red detailing.

Depay

Barcelona’s new signing was undoubtedly one of the standout players of the tournament, demonstrating his quality on the ball to the world. What’s more, he also made it clear that it’s not all about Nike or adidas: you can compete at the highest level with other brands.

In his case, he opted for Under Armour, a brand that is gradually making its mark in the world of football and is attracting increasing attention.
