Inspired by one of the slogans most closely associated with Sporting CP’s identity, the new away kit to be worn by the Portuguese club’s first teams – both men’s and women’s – was officially unveiled yesterday. “We write our own history. Me, you, everyone! From generation to generation, a love that leaves its mark. I am Sporting CP. I am a never-ending story.” These were some of the phrases featured in the video shared by the club via its main communication channels and social media.
Sporting CP 2020/21 away kit
In a Liga NOS season characterised by inconsistency during its opening months, Rúben Amorim’s arrival as manager provided a significant boost to the team, both in terms of the results achieved and the excitement generated amongst Sporting fans. Capitalising on this positive momentum, Macron had already unveiled Sporting CP’s home kit for the coming season earlier this month. At a time when there were still many doubts about how the 2020/21 season would unfold and about the immediate future of football, the Italian brand has unveiled this new away kit alongside a major visual campaign featuring current and former club players such as Manuel Fernandes, Jérémy Mathieu, Eduardo Quaresma and Tiago Tomás.
In line with the current trend amongst leading sports brands, where clubs are playing an increasingly prominent role in the design of their kits, the ‘León’ side has opted for a much bolder jersey this season. Black dominates the design entirely, although the standout feature appears on one of the shoulders: a graphic detail resembling a lion’s claw mark, which offers a glimpse of the home kit underneath, as if it were a second skin. This is a departure from what we’re used to seeing at Sporting CP, and it also features a silver lion printed on the side, at chest height, further reinforcing the club’s identity.
Interestingly, this new away kit was actually unveiled yesterday at the Estádio José Alvalade, during the match between Sporting CP and Vitória de Setúbal.
