We were all looking forward to this moment. We’d been eagerly waiting for over three months to celebrate another goal from our team, over three months longing to watch our team play again alongside our old friends. And, at last, that day has arrived. Not only has Italian football returned, but football in England has also resumed and, according to the latest reports, the Champions League will return in August, with the final scheduled for the end of that same month. But let’s get back to our league and take a look at some details and results.
You know the Italian league is back when Gasperini’s Atalanta are once again playing spectacular football – surely the most entertaining in Italy – but above all when they’re back on top as the league’s highest-scoring side. And much of the credit goes to the outstanding Zapata. The match against Sassuolo ended 4–1, with a brace from the Colombian who, in his last five matches against Sassuolo, has scored no fewer than 20 goals. A world-class striker who will undoubtedly receive plenty of offers this summer. We also enjoyed a superb performance from Papu, who was sporting some spectacular adidas football boots, the adidas Copa Uniforia. It was a real treat for those of us who saw him play in those boots.
In Saturday night’s match between Conte’s men, who wear the Inter Milan jersey, and the Sampdoria players, we saw a game full of exciting moments and numerous dangerous shots from both sides. However, Inter managed to take all three points thanks to a strike partnership that has been keeping Milan dreaming since September. A goal from Lautaro and another from Lukaku have kept the league wide open and made the race for the Scudetto increasingly thrilling, with those three teams still very much in contention. Between today and Wednesday, we’ll see whether Juventus and top scorer Immobile remain the clear favourites to win a Scudetto that’s becoming increasingly thrilling. In addition, two other matches took place: Torino drew 1–1 with Parma, whilst Hellas Verona secured a home win against Cagliari, keeping their European dreams very much alive.
Finally, we’d also like to talk about LaLiga, the Spanish league, which is getting more and more exciting. Real Madrid, after securing a victory against Real Sociedad, moved to the top of the table, although they are level on points with Barcelona. Thanks to their victories in head-to-head matches, the Whites occupy first place and, if they want to stay there, they cannot afford to drop any points.
