2020 Munich Prisma

The new Munich Prisma futsal shoe is absolutely mad. Don’t get us wrong – we mean that in the best possible sense, as we’re not used to seeing this sort of innovation from Munich. Normally, the ‘X’ range has offered – and will continue to offer – us more traditionally styled futsal boots; this isn’t to say that the Catalan brand doesn’t innovate, as this Munich Prisma futsal shoe brings together all the models in its range, such as the Munich Continental, the Munich Gresca and the Tiga. It’s as if this preview were a much more stylish and improved ‘Frankenstein’ – a shoe that we’re sure to regard in the future as one of the best high-end futsal boots.

Before we get down to business, let’s talk a little about the history of Munich. The history of the Spanish brand Munich dates back to the end of the Civil War, when the motivation and sacrifice of the Berneda family’s grandfather were quickly rewarded, enabling the company to carve out a prominent place amongst footwear manufacturers. As the years went by, the Berneda brothers’ company established itself in the world of sports footwear, until, in 1964, a momentous change took place with the introduction of the ‘X’ in MUNICH, the brand’s distinctive emblem. The 1980s were a pivotal period for the Catalan brand, as the surge in popularity of futsal in Spain at that time prompted the company to create a specialised model for the sport. It was with the GOAL model that they made their masterstroke, cementing their position as market leaders.

Starting with the upper – the part that brings everything we’ve discussed to life – we can see that the front section is very clearly dominated by an extremely soft kangaroo leather, which serves several purposes. This is the striking zone – the part most frequently exposed to the shot – where two essential factors are enhanced: both accuracy and ball speed when shooting in this robust boot. The second function of this leather is to provide extra reinforcement against abrasion, thanks to the distinctive turned leather and stitching around the upper. All this is complemented by a necessary micro-perforated fabric at the top, extending down to the laces, which will ensure much better breathability for the foot.

Moving on to the mid-rear section of this upper. One of the details we simply cannot overlook is its Fix tongue, which is semi-integrated in a tubular shape within the upper and hugs the foot like a bandage. A feature that sets this shoe apart and really makes it stand out is its external heel counter; the engineers in Munich have managed to perfectly conceal a sturdy, rigid heel counter thanks to the design that dominates the upper. This will provide us with total stability during the fastest moments of the game. To top it off, a technology partly inherited from the Munich Tiga futsal shoe is the Xtrsuctural Mesh technology, which wraps around the boot’s iconic ‘X’ logo. This technology ensures the foot remains fully breathable.

As for the interior of the shoe, in terms of cushioning it’s a proper 10 out of 10 for those of you who prioritise cushioning above all else. If you remove the insole, you’ll find a 3 mm layer of EVA foam, which blends seamlessly with the X-Lite technology in the midsole. The latter could be described as a high-cut midsole, as the images clearly show there’s no room for any other interpretation.

The outsole of this Munich Prisma is particularly interesting, as it is made of rubber and features a new design based on a multidirectional ‘X’ pattern, with greater density in the areas subject to the most wear, ensuring traction, stability and excellent ball contact, across two completely distinct plates. Furthermore, Munich has taken heavier players into account and incorporated X-Arch technology, a new anti-twist system that ensures the shoe flexes, as it should, exactly where it needs to.
