Jack Wilshere has returned to training with Arsenal after his latest spell without a club, and we will see if, under Mikel Arteta, he can make his way back onto the pitch. However, the most striking thing, apart from his return, has been his completely black New Balance football boots.
From what we can see, it looks like a new model or prototype, as it does not resemble any model currently offered by the American brand. We see an upper that we believe to be knit, but with certain weaves or reinforcements that we cannot determine, as they could be rubber reinforcements, gel inserts, or even internal foam. It's a real mystery.
There is also a new, wider, redesigned sock than in previous models, which even seems to be more comfortable and adaptable, although of course we cannot know this for certain.
In addition, this new ‘collar’ extends much further down than we see in all other football boot models. It extends significantly, both at the front and, surprisingly, also around the ankle area. We do not know what function or purpose it might serve, but it looks really comfortable.
As for the sole, the images do not reveal much, but it appears to be a sole with good traction and a distribution of studs that look semi-conical, but honestly, it is not entirely clear.
In conclusion, we have a new boot that appears to be knit, or a fusion of knit in the style of other brands, with a kind of reinforcement on both the inside and outside of the foot. A new step forward, simply a prototype, or an experiment by New Balance, which, for now, leaves us wanting more. What is certain is that we will be keeping an eye on New Balance.
