New F50 for Leo Messi

We’re at the Camp Nou; it’s the 18th of April 2007 and FC Barcelona are playing Getafe CF. Leo Messi picks up the ball in his own half and starts dribbling past opponents. The rest is football history. 

Adidas and Leo Messi are celebrating 15 years of working together, and the German brand has marked this significant milestone by launching a special edition of the football boots in which the Argentine star scored the most iconic goal of his career. These Adidas football boots are inspired by the F50s with which a young Messi wowed the whole world. The design of these Adidas football boots replicates one of the most iconic F50 models we can recall, in this case the mid-range version, featuring the German brand’s signature three stripes running from one end of the boot to the other along the outer side.

We can’t quite make out which boot model is hidden beneath the design of these adidas F50 football boots. We can see a Primeknit panel on the upper, and an FG outsole attached to the external heel counter, which appears to be the same as that of the current adidas X Ghosted. Of course, the upper is synthetic, a key feature when discussing football boots that pay homage to the original adidas F50 Tunit. As for the details, we find the iconic +Teamgeist logo on the upper part of the instep, with those letters replaced by “Messi + 10”. On the heel, too, we see a yellow circle featuring the FC Barcelona player’s logo, an essential element given that this is an exclusive model for the Argentine.

Finally, and what we consider to be the most significant detail of this Adidas football boot, is the F50 logo on the outside of the left boot and the F30 logo on the outside of the right boot, indicating that this model was the Adidas F50.7 Tunit; however, at that time, Leo Messi was wearing the mid-range model, known as the F30, which featured various modifications made exclusively for him.

These are the adidas football boots that Leo Messi will be wearing for this summer’s Copa América – a special edition that takes us back to the days when the Rosario-born star was the face of adidas’ Speed line, a style of boot with which he was truly synonymous.
