After unveiling the first of the four instalments of this story last Friday – in which we discovered the new Nike Phantom VSN II, inspired by Neymar’s first Hypervenom boots – today the boots of one of the greatest players of all time really take centre stage. Today we’re bringing you the remastered version of the 2009 Nike Mercurial Vapor Superfly that Cristiano Ronaldo wore during his final years at Manchester United.

Nike Mercurial Vapor XIII Remastered Future DNA

With a design clearly inspired by the 2009 Nike Mercurial Vapor Superfly, these new Nike football boots, the Mercurial Vapor 13 Elite Future DNA, retain the same colour scheme as the original model: Max Orange, Silver and Navy. However, their aesthetic is much more modern and contemporary. Both the positioning and design of the Nike Swoosh, as well as other distinctive features of these boots, have been adapted to the style of the 2009 Mercurial.

Technical features: Mercurial Vapor XIII Remastered

As for the technology, and just as was the case with the first instalment of this story, these Nike football boots do not feature any technological innovations. The main differences lie in the redesign and the new look, which is clearly inspired by the Mercurial boots that Cristiano Ronaldo wore in 2009.

The upper also features a one-piece, 360-degree construction, allowing the boot to mould perfectly to the entire foot. Its new micro-textured Flyknit fabric makes the upper much softer and ensures that players with slightly wider feet can wear these boots in complete comfort.

The NikeSkin finish on the Flyknit section, which also incorporates ACC technology, allows players to enjoy the best grip in all game situations, even in the most adverse weather conditions. The spectacular new two-piece modular outsole provides players with all the support and stability they need during sprints, as well as when they have to brake suddenly. It’s the perfect outsole for speed boots such as the Nike Mercurial.

The player who will officially be wearing these boots is Leroy Sané, a German footballer who plays for Manchester City, a club based in Manchester and a rival of United. This is an interesting fact that shows just how much footballing talent there is in Manchester, regardless of which colours you support.
