The new Nike Mercurial football boots have arrived in Fútbol Emotion’s shops, set to win hearts and remind us of a time when speed was every brand’s obsession. Today we’re talking about the second boot in Nike’s ‘Future DNA Pack’. These football boots were originally launched in 2009. Those Nike Mercurial Vapor Superfly boots were the lightest and fastest iteration in the entire Mercurial range and, at the time, offered a glimpse into the future of Nike football boots. For the first time in a boot – with the original 2009 Nike Mercurial Vapor Superfly being one of the most iconic Mercurial boots – the American brand incorporated next-generation Nike Flywire technology into an aerodynamic upper.

This technology marked a turning point, as it was not only featured on the Mercurial Vapor Superfly 1 itself, but was also incorporated into many other ranges, such as the first-generation Nike Magista Obra, as well as countless other models from the American brand. The aim of this filament and fibre technology was therefore to mould to your foot like a second skin and provide a lighter, stronger and more dynamic fit. Bear in mind that speed football boots require perfect weight distribution whilst running, and an optimal fit is vital, as the innovative Flywire technology helped us avoid roll-over issues entirely.

This boot also featured a carbon fibre sole that responded to the desire for speed which, at that time, was on every brand’s mind, with studs strategically positioned to ensure a responsive stride and quick changes of direction in any direction.

Looking back at a bit of non-tech history, the Swoosh brand pays tribute to the Max Orange and Metallic Silver colourway of its 2009 predecessor, which made its debut exclusively on the pitch thanks to its star player – as these were Cristiano Ronaldo’s football boots, and he was playing for Manchester United at the time. At that time, only the Nike Mercurial Vapor range existed, but following this generation, the Mercurial Superfly range was born. And who better than Cristiano Ronaldo to christen the much-coveted Nike Mercurial Superfly VII Elite boots.

This new Nike Mercurial Vapor Elite “Future DNA Mercurial” football boot is the second release in Nike Football’s Future Football Pack, in which current performance boots pay homage to a historic design from Nike Football’s history whilst incorporating modern updates to a classic boot – just as was the case with the Nike Phantom Vision Remastered Remix, unveiled on the 6th of March.

A look that you’ll fall in love with at first sight and that’s ready to send us soaring across the pitch. The Flyknit on these boots is simply stunning and gives us a fit that’s truly in a league of its own. The red and silver design, combined with the matt black, not only stands out but is packed with a million nostalgic details from 2009. A spectacular touch. The grip on this boot is incredibly aggressive, allowing sprinters to give their all in every race. Just as seen in the Nike Future Lab Pack – featuring Neymar’s and Mbappé’s boots – they’re once again at the very top of the football boot rankings.
