Nike Phantom GT 2

Nike football boots have always been synonymous with innovation and the constant incorporation of technologies designed to support the modern footballer. In keeping with this philosophy, a year after their launch, we see a slight update to the Phantom range as part of Nike’s new black boot collection.

As the successors to the original Phantom VSN and VNM models, they faced a very difficult challenge: to combine the lightness, power and aggressive traction of the Venom with the feel and support of a more structured boot, as seen in the Vision. To achieve this, a thinner Flyknit upper was chosen, retaining a highly aggressive outsole whilst incorporating Generative Texture.

This GT is responsible for providing that grip on the ball and ensuring it spins excessively when we touch it, without being overly aggressive on hard shots or ‘knuckleball’ strikes. And in this second version, it is the upper that has undergone changes, with an improved texture that further enhances the Phantom concept.

The overall pattern has been updated, with changes to various sections that also give the boot a fresh new look. Two side stripes have been added and the boot’s graphic design has been redesigned, giving it a slightly more polished appearance. The GT has been redesigned and no longer features small strips, but rather different arrows that run the entire length of the boot, providing a cleaner and more precise grip as the pattern is now better distributed across the entire front section.

This new texture, or ‘Generative texture’, is very similar to the one found in the early generations of the Phantom VSN. If you liked that boot you’ll be delighted with it. We’ve regained that perfect balance between grip and touch that we loved so much in the previous model.

As for the sole, there are no changes; the Hyperquick technology remains, striking that balance between traction and comfort. We have a trio of studs that provide that extra bit of traction and grip, combined with semi-conical studs that aid in turns and rotation. In short, it’s a sole that’s well-liked, which is why Nike hasn’t altered it in this upgrade.

In conclusion, we have a new Nike Phantom GT model, which is a slight update on the previous version, though it doesn’t represent a major generational leap. That said, it’s a fantastic boot, and if you’re still unsure whether to buy it or not, you’ll find the answer in our post on reasons to buy the Nike Phantom GT
