New Premier League football

Today we’re taking a look at Nike’s new Premier League winter ball, which is a real work of art. Let’s take a closer look

As is customary every year, the American brand has unveiled its winter or Hi-Vis footballs for the coming season. The truth is that in recent years, the yellow ball – designed to improve visibility in rainy or foggy conditions and other adverse weather – has simply been updated with different patterns and logos on the original design, without a truly new design; this has now changed with the new Nike Flight Hi-Vis.

As you can see, the entire design of the original ball has been revamped, drawing inspiration from comic book culture; the ‘Golden Age’ has been chosen as the inspiration for the Nike logos, the colour scheme and, of course, the name of the ball’s key technology, Aerowsculpt

The ball’s visibility in adverse weather conditions is therefore well and truly proven, and the design also gives it a simply spectacular look.

From a technical standpoint, the original design remains unchanged, as it retains the heat-sealed panels, ACC technology to prevent water from penetrating the ball, and, of course, Aerowsculpt – the grooves that run across the entire surface of the ball and give it that smooth, perfect flight characteristic of Nike balls.

And as if that weren’t enough, the new Nike Flight uses 3D ink design to strategically print ‘micro-flaps’ along the Nike AerowSculpt grooves, further enhancing and optimising aerodynamic stability, reducing wobble and creating a more predictable and consistent flight.

And these images show us one of the best footballs around today – a technological marvel that we see in the Premier League, boasting one of the finest designs of recent times. Now all that remains is for us to enjoy it on the pitch.
