The American brand’s top-of-the-range speed boot may well be its lightest boot ever made.

We’ll start by looking at the update to the Furon range, as the American brand’s fastest boot has come packed with new features. Whilst the previous generation saw hardly any changes compared to earlier models, this time there are enough modifications to consider it a generational leap. The upper incorporates the new FIT WEAVE technology, a revolutionary knit that significantly enhances lightness and comfort compared to the inner mesh of the previous generation. Unsurprisingly, FIT WEAVE is combined with ‘hidraskin’, which, as well as helping to seal the boot, gives it the textured finish we see across the shell. The design and the way both materials are integrated have changed, as ‘hidraskin’ takes centre stage and protrudes further from the shell, providing much better grip on the ball than in previous generations, without losing the clean, pure touch characteristic of the Furon range.

Let’s move on to the chassis, where the new features include the ‘sock’ and the lacing area itself. The lacing area has been redesigned, and with good reason, as there are some significant changes to be seen. Firstly, the tongue has been completely removed and replaced by Hyper-Lock technology – something that is sure to appeal to fans of the ‘barefoot’ feel and tighter-fitting boots. The lacing itself has been raised, creating a clearer and cleaner striking area. These changes are complemented by the removal of the reinforcement around the eyelets, which is now integrated into the design, resulting in a much cleaner boot that reinforces the Furon’s sprinter-like spirit and will please its fastest players, as these are Mané’s football boots.

The ‘sock’ section has been lowered below the medial malleolus to maximise ankle mobility and support, much like that found in rival football boots. Made from an ultra-soft, flexible and durable knit, which, according to New Balance, does not lose its grip and will remain secure for life.
