It was an open secret that Memphis Depay was looking for a replacement for his sponsor. For several months now, we have seen him wearing football boots from various brands, including Nike, Adidas and Puma, the brand that has managed to win over the footballer.
It all started at the end of last season, when, overnight, Memphis Depay appeared competing in Nike Mercurial football boots. This set off alarm bells, as the footballer, who was rumoured to be FC Barcelona's latest signing, decided to wear the American brand's speed silo. But not for long, as within a few weeks, we saw him back in his legendary Under Armour boots, leading us to believe that the contractual situation between the brand and the footballer had been resolved.
But nothing could be further from the truth. As soon as he arrived at FC Barcelona, he began switching between brands. From adidas X Speedflow football boots to Puma Ultra, and then back to Mercurial. An endless array of brands, models and colours have adorned the feet of the Moordrecht-born footballer since he arrived in Barcelona. What caught our attention most was that most of the time, the boots worn by the striker were in inline colours, so we deduced that Memphis was encouraging brands to make him an offer to become their image.
Those offers arrived, and Puma was able to convince Memphis Depay with its Puma Ultra football boots. The feline brand's most minimalist silo will be responsible for dressing the Dutchman's feet for the next few seasons, and although it is not official, we saw Memphis score a goal wearing them last weekend. A fantastic debut for the new contractual relationship between the brand and the athlete, which puts Puma back in the media spotlight with the acquisition of another European football star.
We already knew that Puma was serious, and once again it has shown us its ability to attract great footballers. Memphis Depay joins a great family that includes players of the calibre of Neymar Jr, Griezmann, Luis Suárez, and a long list of other ambassadors who are highly recognised in the media within our society. If we were Nike and Adidas, we would hold on tight to our stars, as it seems that a hungry Puma is on the loose.
New colourways for two silos from the swoosh brand, which are already filling the courts. The Attack Pack is already showing off, and we're going to take a look at all its details.
We have a new limited edition of the adidas Predator 26, which come in spectacular colourways and a very special design. Let's find out everything these new Unlocked boots have to offer.
