We’ve spotted Rodrigo Betancur wearing blackout boots in training ahead of this weekend’s match against SPAL. Without further ado – and as you might expect – rumours have emerged that they could be the new adidas Predator 20+ range. It’s an obvious assumption, but what if we’re looking at a brand-new silo from the German brand adidas?
Is a new generation of adidas Predator 20 boots coming soon?
From the images, we can surmise that this may be the new generation of the adidas Predator 20 football boot, bearing in mind that Rodrigo Betancur is one of the ambassadors for this range. We know that the transition from the adidas Predator 18+ to the current adidas Predator 19+ boot did not represent a significant change, as it was essentially a necessary restyling of various parts of the boot, such as the heel counter or the softness of the Primeknit, but in this case, it may be different.
In this ‘blackout’ prototype by Rodrigo Betancur, we can see a radical change, at least in terms of aesthetics. What really catches the eye is how the sock on this boot rises much higher than we’re used to nowadays, particularly when looking at the heels. It’s interesting how the trend for boots with high socks, which took off back in 2014, has gradually faded away over time. Now we’re seeing a boot with a high sock again in this blackout design.
We can see how an aggressive external heel counter will grip and withstand the most intense challenges in this upcoming adidas boot – something that contrasts with what we saw in the adidas Predator 18+, where the heel counter wasn’t particularly noteworthy. We think what we need to do now is wait and see which direction the adidas brand is heading. Will the Predator range disappear? In the football boot market, you never know – anything is possible, especially coming from one of the leading brands in the sector.
