September is here, and with it comes the close of the transfer window. Today we take a look back at this summer’s biggest signings and the boots they’ll be wearing.

This has been one of the busiest transfer windows we can remember, with plenty of top players changing clubs, including the two most influential players of the last decade. Today, we won’t be discussing the significance and impact of those transfers, but rather the football boots each of them wears.
We begin with a surprise that came at the very last minute of the transfer window. Just when it seemed there would be no further activity, Atlético Madrid and FC Barcelona announced an agreement for the transfer of Antoine Griezmann. The French footballer is returning to his former home, and he’s not coming back alone, as his Puma Ultra football boots will also be back on the pitch at the Metropolitano.
There’s no doubt that the French star has become a true icon for the Puma Ultra range, and many young lads are already asking for Griezmann’s boots for a special occasion. Let’s hope that his return to Atlético Madrid will also bring back the form he’s lacked at Barcelona, so we can once again enjoy the striker at his very best.
Another player leaving the Catalan club is its biggest star, one of the most important players in its history, if not the most important, and that is none other than the Argentine Leo Messi. Just as last summer it seemed impossible that ‘La Pulga’ would remain at FC Barcelona, this year the tables turned and we all believed we would continue to enjoy the world’s best left foot for at least one more season. But that has not been the case, and although both parties had reached an agreement, the club’s financial problems made it impossible for the Argentine to remain in Barcelona.
So Leo Messi will be debuting a new crest, colours and boots this year, as the club isn’t the only thing changing for Messi this season. The German brand adidas, which supplies the Argentine star’s boots, has decided to remove the adidas Nemeziz football boots from its catalogue, leaving Leo without a dedicated boot line and moving him to the new adidas X Speedflow. However, one thing that catches our eye is that he won’t be wearing the + model; instead, Leo Messi’s boots will be the adidas X Speedflow.1, the laced version of the German brand’s high-end football boots. These are significant changes in the striker’s sporting life, which we hope won’t affect his individual form, so that we can continue to enjoy watching him for a long time to come.
And when we talk about Leo Messi, we can’t forget the other great star of our era, Cristiano Ronaldo. We’ve been hearing for months that the all-time leading goalscorer for national teams was looking for a new club, and that’s exactly what’s happened. Manchester United are the lucky ones, so Cristiano will return to what was once his home to play out the final stage of his career, and of course, he’ll be doing so in his Nike Mercurial Superfly football boots.
The Mercurials aren’t just any boots; they’re Cristiano Ronaldo’s boots and a fundamental part of his sporting career. It’s a partnership that began many years ago and continues to satisfy both parties to this day, as the Portuguese star has repeatedly made it clear that he cannot imagine playing in any boots other than the Nike Mercurial. CR7, Manchester United and Nike Mercurial: a combination that once took the football world by storm and which this season will aim to put the Red Devils back at the very top of world football.
We’re continuing our round-up of transfers, and we can’t overlook the most expensive signing of this transfer window, none other than England’s Jack Grealish. Manchester City were determined that Grealish should be wearing sky blue this season, as evidenced by the sum they put on the table to secure the Birmingham player’s services.
So Jack Grealish, and his new Nike Phantom GT2 boots, will be the ones to delight City fans this season. It’s no easy task, as very few players are capable of standing out in a team with such a high standard of individual talent, although with a pair of Nike Phantom GT2 football boots on his feet, everything seems a bit easier.
Finally, having discussed two players leaving FC Barcelona, let’s turn our attention to one who is joining the club and who, to date, has been the one pulling the cart forward despite the obstacles piling up day by day. Memphis Depay, one of the most charismatic players on the current scene, joined the Catalan club this summer and has, so far, been making a real difference.
But when it comes to identifying his boots, we run into a problem: whilst it’s true that the Dutch footballer wears Under Armour for matches, we’ve seen him training in various boots over the last few weeks, including the adidas X Speedflow, Nike Mercurial Vapor and Puma Ultra.
We don’t know whether the striker is considering switching brands, or whether this is simply a way of getting Under Armour’s attention in the hope of securing better contract terms, but personally, it’s refreshing to see a top player wearing a brand that’s so uncommon in modern football.
These have been the five most talked-about signings of the summer and the kit they’ll be wearing in their bid to win over their new fans. Will they succeed?
