As our top choice, we recommend the classic Nike Mercurial – football boots that have made history and will continue to be the all-time bestsellers for many years to come. By now, you’re all familiar with them: football boots featuring a FlyKNIT construction, a highly elastic synthetic material which, over the years, has also improved significantly in terms of lightness; furthermore, they have a sole divided into two plates, with studs that facilitate changes of direction and sprints. Finally, as you know, there are two options: the low-cut Mercurial—that is, the Vapor—and the high-cut version—that is, the Superfly—which incorporates the DynamicFitCollar.

The second option can be none other than the adidas X – a brand-new pair of adidas football boots, the German brand’s latest release for 2020. Let’s take a look at the significant evolution and major changes this model has undergone throughout its history, right up to the present day, where adidas offers us ultra-lightweight football boots that we’ve already seen on the feet of great champions, who have spoken of them in nothing but glowing terms. The upper is made from an ultra-lightweight, super-fine synthetic material – so fine, in fact, that you can see the socks we’re wearing. It also features an internal cushioning pad in the heel area, which will prove very useful both for comfort and for keeping the foot stable. Finally, the outsole has also been completely redesigned and is made from carbon – a brilliant move by adidas. Here too, there are two versions available: lace-up and slip-on.
Puma Ultra
Third place can only go to Puma and its incredible Puma Ultra boots, also launched in late 2020 to dominate the whole of 2021; football boots that we thought might be endorsed by the newly signed Neymar, but that hasn’t been the case. However, let’s focus on the new Ultra boots, made from a synthetic material called MatrixEvo – an ultra-lightweight composition that will delight fans of minimalist design. Furthermore, the toe box features a very lightweight gel coating that provides extra grip when making contact with the ball. The outsole is particularly interesting, as it’s inspired by the trainers worn by track and field sprinters, featuring a mix of very small studs and larger ones to ensure a firm grip on the pitch.
New Balance Furon
It’s time to talk about the football boots of the ‘King of Africa’, Sadio Mané, and his Furon boots – a technologically impressive pair that have won over the Liverpool striker and which we’ve recently seen in two new colourways. The upper is made from an ultra-fine synthetic microfibre, making the boot very lightweight whilst ensuring a perfect fit. What’s more, the outsole features a special design: arrow-shaped studs designed to improve acceleration in both tight spaces and open areas.
