A few days before the official launch of this new Nike football boot, Kylian Mbappé had already been spotted in action wearing this very same model during the Ligue 1 match between Paris SG and St-Étienne, a game that ended in a 1-1 draw. Although all the other details were revealed on the day of its official launch, last Saturday the 8th of January, it was the perfect day to take a closer look at this marvel from Nike Football. The inspiration for the striking design of both models that make up this collection stems from the concept of duality—a parallel journey towards success undertaken by both athletes, much like a champion passing the torch to another champion. So Kylian Mbappé and LeBron James, who, as well as being recognised as superstars in their respective sports, are also seen as local heroes in their hometowns, more specifically in the neighbourhoods where they were born (Kylian – Bondy and LeBron – Akron), where the fact that both athletes left such challenging environments ultimately shaped them both as people and as players. All of this led to both earning recognition from Nike and thus receiving this latest tribute from the American brand.
Given that football boots are our speciality, today we’ll be taking a closer look at all the standout features of these new boots for the French star’s exclusive edition. Probably the most ingenious design element in these Nike Mercurial football boots is the combination of both players’ names in a new graphic designed by Nike for this event, which is featured on one of the insoles. The letters there are arranged so that you can read both the word ‘LeBron’ and the word ‘Kylian’.
The upper part of the design stands out thanks to the KM x LBJ logo, which is incorporated into the darker upper, and also features a double Swoosh: one for KM and one for LJ. On the toe cap, we can also see a graphic featuring the word ‘Chosen’, and on the sides of the heel, there are prominent 3D-style KM and LBJ logos, emphasising the collaboration between the two athletes. All of this is topped off with an iridescent finish that runs across the entire upper and extends down to the sole of the boots.
