Although there won’t be a European Championship this year, many brands had already designed football boots and goalkeeper gloves that were due to be launched to coincide with this major tournament. However, even though the tournament has been postponed, all the brands have wanted to showcase these products and ensure that professional players wear them on the pitch – and, of course, that we can enjoy them too. That’s why today we’ll be discussing what we consider to be the best football boots launched this month, both for their technology and their colour schemes.
First of all, we’d like to tell you about the Puma Future from the Rise pack – boots that combine really eye-catching and bold colours, such as fluorescent yellow and a shade of pink verging on orange. What’s more, one of the boot’s most striking features is the outsole – not so much for its technology, as it retains the same structure as previous editions, but for its spectacular metallic silver colour, which makes any player wearing them stand out on the pitch. As for the technology, there aren’t any major changes. We still have the Netfit system, a lacing method that allows each player to adjust their boots to their own specifications. There is also an upper made from a highly elastic synthetic material which is, above all, very comfortable.
The second pair of boots we want to tell you about are the adidas football boots, which are worn by many players and which we’ve had the chance to try out ourselves. We are talking about the Predator – a pair of boots that caused quite a stir at the start of the year and were very well received by numerous players and fans of the German brand. With this new colourway, adidas has taken a huge step forward. They’re spectacular boots, with a stylish yet, at the same time, very aggressive design. The combination of bold, fresh shades of white, red and yellow creates a design that’s sure to make more than a few people want to slip them on and head out onto the pitch for a spot of passing. As for the technologies, they remain the same. The upper is made from a fairly stretchy knitted fabric, particularly around the collar, which makes it easy to slip your foot in. In addition, of course, there’s Demonskin – rubber textures that enhance grip and ball control.
The last boot we’re showcasing is New Balance’s new laceless football boot, the Tekela V3. This model is making a strong entrance onto the market to carve out a niche amongst the major brands, and it incorporates state-of-the-art technologies which we’re going to analyse. Although aesthetically they aren’t amongst the favourites – featuring a somewhat muted shade of blue with rainbow-coloured details – these details aren’t merely decorative. These are textured patterns that provide greater grip when the boot makes contact with the ball. Furthermore, the outsole retains the same design as the previous generation, although it incorporates a very distinctive feature: we once again find elements in rainbow colours, this time laser-etched.
