First of all, we think it’s worth making it clear that the new model of the adidas Predator football boots isn’t a radical departure from previous versions, but rather a restyling that makes changes to key aspects of the boot. Having said that, let’s take a look at the differences.
Predator 2020 versus Predator 2021
At first glance, there’s a fundamental change that significantly alters the feel when putting the boot on, and that’s the new adidas collar. Like its predecessor, the boot is made entirely from Primeknit, which means the collar moulds the boot to the shape of your foot. This collar on the new Predator Freak+ is longer and has a construction more similar to the adidas Nemeziz football boots, with two separate sections that open to allow us to slip our foot in, which then ensure a snug fit. The fit is improved and provides greater support as the lower layer sits closer to our foot, offering a better anchor point.-

Moving on to the other major change in these new Predator Freak boots is the switch from the Demonskin found on the adidas Predator Mutator+ to the new Mutated Demonskin. For those unfamiliar with it, this technology consists of all the rubber inserts on the outsole that provide exceptional grip for football boots. Well, the design of these rubber inserts, or the ‘Predator element’, gives us taller and better-distributed studs than in the previous generation. The number has also been reduced, from 406 on the old Predator Mutator+ to 225 on the new adidas Predator Freak+.
And this is the key feature of the new adidas Predator boots: the new Predator element, known as Mutated Demonskin, which is spread across the entire boot, covering the outer surface—which remained untouched in the previous generation—as well as the central section where the laces would go. Consequently, the improved distribution of the studs allows for a softer and more malleable Primeknit than in the previous generation, resulting in a significantly more comfortable boot, without compromising in any way on that spectacular grip and touch that is the hallmark of the Predator range.
As for the sole, it remains unchanged, so there’s nothing in particular to highlight, as it retains the sole that’s so popular with Predator players such as Paul Pogba and Koke Resurrección.
In conclusion, we have a new pair of adidas Predator football boots, which are a streamlined version of the previous generation. A softer upper, with a better fit and feel, makes for a more comfortable boot than its predecessor. Furthermore, the new placement of the Predator element provides greater support across all the areas used to strike the ball, as it extends to the outer edge of the boot as well as the central part of the upper. Therefore, this is a new, improved Predator that remains true to its heritage, and we invite you to try them out because, despite being merely a restyling, this makes the adidas Predator Freak+ a truly outstanding football boot.
