New Reusch Pure Contact Arrow G3 gloves

With the brand-new Reusch Pure Contact III gloves, those of you with a nostalgic streak are in for a treat. What better way to start this post than by expressing our eagerness to get back on the pitch than by showcasing a glove that evokes times gone by? Introducing the new Reusch Pure Contact Arrow goalkeeper gloves – a true work of art for sports kit enthusiasts with a penchant for all things retro.

Just as with the Reusch Freccia G3, the essence remains the same, just as we look back to the past, recalling the history of the arrow that has accompanied so many goalkeepers throughout our careers; the German brand Reusch was making strides in incorporating technology into its gloves, and the arrow was an obstacle to improving the back of the glove with the new advancements they had developed. Reusch took a drastic decision for the brand – and a traumatic one for goalkeepers: the arrow was consigned to history at the 2002 World Cup on all Reusch gloves. Just a year ago, we saw Inter Milan’s goalkeeper, Handanovic, wearing an all-white model with the arrow prominently displayed on the back; subsequently, we were all able to enjoy the same design as it went on sale in two different colourways.

The arrow has returned with the Reusch Freccia gloves, stronger than ever. That is why the German/Italian brand has sought to pay tribute to the classic goalkeeper, offering them the very best and most up-to-date technologies. Although there are gloves that, in terms of Reusch’s evolutionary philosophy, bear a much closer resemblance to the old World Keeper, the truth is that the trend for a reinforced glove with a latex-covered back is not what is most in demand. Reusch therefore appeals to both the classic goalkeeper, thanks to its aesthetics, and the more modern goalkeeper, given the philosophy behind this glove.

Let’s start by talking about the back of the glove. Just like its counterpart, the Reusch Pure Contact III goalkeeper glove, it follows a seamless design philosophy very similar to that of the Arrow, in the neoprene cuff – known by the Germans as ‘Free Flex’. This allows the hand to move as naturally and freely as possible. One of the standout features is the wristband, which is asymmetrically shaped and covered on the palm side by a section of more durable latex that acts as an extended palm whilst also providing protection against the high levels of abrasion typical of a goalkeeper’s contact with the turf.

Let’s get to what really matters: the palm. The brand’s flagship model a few years ago, the glove used by Reusch’s professional goalkeepers. We recall that the G2 palm took a back seat following the introduction of this G3 palm, a palm designed for soft surfaces, specifically natural grass, as the G3 foam is extremely soft.

Naturally, as it is a completely seamless glove, it features a negative cut with a hint of rollfinger styling – an extremely snug fit, referred to by the brand as the Evolution Negative Cut ESS – which wraps around the fingertips like a rollfinger and joins the back of the hand via a negative cut. To round off the new Reusch Pure Contact Arrow, and to ensure optimum support, it features the new asymmetrical Slip-On Cuff with an integrated strap.
